PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet [video]

Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! – fightforthefuture.org/pipa
PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.”
The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.
Syrian social media crossfire kills users
By NewsBot
End the Lie
January 13, 2012
Syria is vowing to investigate the death of a French TV reporter. He was killed along with eight Syrians when a mortar shell hit a crowd gathered for a pro-government rally. But it is not only the media being caught between the conflicting sides.
Muhammed Mahmud’s son Tamman was an activist who used social networking sites, such as Facebook, to call for peace in Syria. He had phoned his family to tell them to watch him doing an interview on local TV.
“I saw him on TV, and he looked well,” his mother told journalists. But it was to be one of the last times the family saw him alive.
“Soon after that he was kidnapped. He left home and never returned,” his father explained. “We found his body in the morning, and his face was mutilated. It’s too painful for me to remember that moment.”
It remains unclear who killed Tamman. His family thinks it may have been militants who thought he was a working for the security forces after seeing him speak on television. But in reality he worked at a sugar mill and was training to become a computer specialist.
But, like so many other young educated people in Syria right now, he felt a need to be involved in the changing reality in his country. Syria, in fact, has one of the youngest populations in the Arab world.
In schools across Syria younger generations have become better educated than their grandparents’ or parents’ generations. It has meant they are not only more aware of their political rights, but more able to demand them too.
Many young opposition supporters have taken their campaign online, relying heavily on social media like Facebook and Twitter – tools which have helped topple regimes in Egypt and Libya.
“People’s literacy and also media literacy has been enormously enhanced in recent decades by both education and technological change,” says Mark Almond, a history lecturer at Oxford University. “But I think we should remember this can cut both ways. Opposition sides can try to get out their message and can mobilize people, but also even supporters of governments are much less dependent on a single news station or a single state newspaper.”
But between a regime under pressure and an increasingly militarized opposition, many Syrians have been left trapped in the middle.
“I have only one question: what did they kill my son for?” Muhammed Mahmud questions. “My son wasn’t a politician or a public figure. Let various movements, national and local, exist in this country. I don’t understand why my son was killed.”
Speaking before a crowd, many of whom were young supporters, President Assad once again repeated his promises of reforms and gave a precise timetable, but the move was met with skepticism from the opposition.
Meanwhile, on all sides of this conflict young, politically-motivated Syrians remain committed to fighting for the political future of their country, despite the fact that for many like Tamman that fight could end up costing them their lives.

MLK, Occupy and End The Fed [article + videos]
By Kim M.
FreeSLO.com
January 15, 2012
The big difference I see between Martin Luther King Jr. (at the beginning of his career as an activist) and Occupy
Wall Street (at the beginning of their collective “career”) is that everyone knew what MLK wanted, but nobody seems to know what Occupy wants.
The people who drive by screaming, “Get a job!” are a testament to this.
The infamous “OccupySLO Pwns Hecklers” video is a testament to this.
Everyone seems to think Occupy wants a handout.
And maybe some do, but the ones I’ve talked to don’t. In fact, most of the ones I’ve talked to at Occupy SLO are more interested in getting America back on Constitutional track and don’t necessarily 100% endorse the 99% mandates handed down by Occupy Wall Street.
Quite frankly, we here in America now find ourselves in a situation so dire and with so many urgent issues that need to be addressed that it’s almost impossible to decide where to begin.
At the end of his life, MLK became more like Occupy is now in that he began to tackle the giant, amorphous issue of “poverty.” Admirable, but how do you tackle an abstract intangible? It’s like the hazy “war on drugs” and the fuzzy “war on terrorism,” where there is no real, defined enemy and no real, defined goal. How is it possible to win a “war” when nobody knows who they are fighting and when there is no tangible “territory” to take?
This is also a good place to stop and deal with the whole “positive” and “negative” nonsense. Apparently, if you point out a problem (“the emperor has no clothes”), then you’re being negative. But if you ignore the problem (“let’s have a concert and party!”), then you’re being positive and everybody knows it’s better to be positive (gack).
I defy anyone to drive a car without the positive and negative cables properly attached to the battery. Or try using any battery-operated device with all the positive ends facing the same direction. Or, hey, let’s think really big and try to stop planet earth from having positive and negative poles. Ridiculous, huh? Positive and negative are flip sides of the same coin. Night/day. Warm/cold. Problem/solution.
So can we finally knock off the “Let’s be positive” cr@p? Recognize the problem. Propose the solution. See how nicely that works? Positive and negative poles working together in harmony.
The real mandate is to identify real, tangible problems and then identify real, reachable goals.
Everyone (in their right mind) wants to end poverty. Unfortunately, few people want to make the effort to peek and see just exactly what creepy crawly things are under the poverty rock. Against the advice of the founders, we currently have a centrally-planned economy. We have hired a private entity (the Federal Reserve) to lend us our own money at interest.
How can you pay interest on a dollar when all you have is a dollar? Worse, how can you pay back the dollar plus interest when the value of the dollar in your hand keeps going down due to the fact that the dollar-issuer (the Federal Reserve) keeps printing more and more dollars that each have to be paid back with interest?
The tragedy is that very few people understand how our economy really works.
I asked one of the young men in the “Pwn
” video what money is and he said, “I don’t know; I’m not an economist.” I asked him why we have inflation and he said, “I don’t know; I’m not an economist.” Wow. These are very basic questions and yet the average college grad can’t answer them.
Our economy is broken. Most people can agree on that.
If the car stops running, no doubt it’s broke. If the economy stops running, no doubt it’s broke. But not everyone knows how to fix a car, just as not everyone knows how to fix an economy.
Most of us would take a broken car to an expert to have it fixed, but where do you take a broken economy? And what do you do if you find out that the mechanic is the same person who broke the car in the first place? Likewise, what would you do if you discover that the same entity that we’ve given the economy over to is the self-same entity which broke the economy?
This is precisely the situation we find ourselves in now.
We’ve identified the problem: The car is broken. We’ve identified the cause: The mechanic did it. The solution is obviously to fire the mechanic and hire an honest one. A mechanic who respects humanity and the rule of law.
This is the same direction that Occupy needs to go:
1) Identify the problem.
2) Identify the culprit (i.e. get to the root of the problem).
3) Identify the solution.
Simple as 1-2-3.
1) The economy is broken.
2) The Fed did it.
3) Fire the Fed and get back to Constitutional basics.
“The dignity of the individual will flourish when the decisions concerning his life are in his own hands, when he has the assurance that his income is stable and certain, and when he knows that he has the means to seek self-improvement. Personal conflicts between husband, wife, and children will diminish when the unjust measurement of human worth on a scale of dollars is eliminated.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
And especially when that scale is constructed of fiat, inflated dollars, issued by banksters and backed by nothing.

Mysterious Sounds Continue to be Recorded Throughout the World [article + videos]
The Intel Hub
January 17, 2012
Mysterious sounds and booms continue to be heard throughout the world and the explanations as to what they might be continue to flock in.
The sounds can be described as industrial and mechanical at times and at others they seem to sound bizarre and creepy.
The Extinction Protocol, a blog specializing in covering possible doomsday events, recently released an article detailing the mysterious sounds and what they might be.
The sounds range in description from “bizarre and creepy” to “industrial and mechanical.”
The sounds appear to be omni-directional and seem to have no single traced source of origin or horizontal source of degree graduation- leaving one with the impression they are coming from directly overhead or directly underneath the earth.
Disinformation campaigns have already been launched with claims that ALL the sounds recorded are a large scale hoax through the use of putting the same audio in numerous videos taken throughout the world.
This is clearly NOT the case and this startling information gains even more importance when you consider a disinformation campaign was launched within one day of the story breaking worldwide.
[Potent News Editor’s note: I’ve personally heard these odd sounds here in Halifax, Canada lately (usually in the middle of the night). I’ve heard these as far back as mid-December although I did not get a chance to record them yet.]
An interactive internet map has been set up that traces the mysterious booms, explosions, and sounds. You can view the map here.
Although there are many more videos than the ones below, just listening to the videos provided paints an eerie picture as to what is happening throughout the world.
House Kills SOPA
By Josh Wretlind
Examiner.com
January 16, 2012
In a surprise move today, Representative Eric Cantor(R-VA) announced that he will stop all action on SOPA, effectively killing the bill. This move was most likely due to several things. One of those things is that SOPA and PIPA met huge online protest against the bills. Another reason would be that the White House threatened to veto the bill if it had passed. However, it isn’t quite time yet to celebrate, as PIPA(the Senate’s version of SOPA) is still up for consideration.
The online protests about the bill were surprising and large. They ranged anywhere from calling Representatives, companies, and senators to get them to change their mind, to actively moving domain’s away from and targeting the business model of the companies that supported/lobbied for the bill. GoDaddy lost well over 100,000 domains in the space of about 10 days due to their involvement with these bills, along with other various targets. Reddit in particular has been influential in turning the tide against SOPA and PIPA, and is a good demonstration of how the Internet enables Democracy.
PIPA is less well known than SOPA, but the provisions are basically the same. It still includes the same DNS blocking and censoring system that the original SOPA did, just without the SOPA name. There are around 40 co-sponsors of the bill in the Senate so far, with no word on how many senators support the bill in addition to that. There will most likely need to be 60 votes in the Senate in order to invoke cloture and end an almost guaranteed filibuster.

What Are the Strange Sounds Being Heard All Over the World? [article + video]
The Intel Hub
By David Haynie – Contributing Writer
January 16, 2012
In the last 5 days or so there have been multiple UAO(Unidentified Audible Objects) recorded across the world. These loud rumbles that seem to come from the skies have been so powerful that they have been reportedly rattling walls and windows of buildings.
At times it seems to sound like multitudes of planes flying overhead and at others it sounds like apocalyptic deep horns. No one seems to have absolutely any explanation whatsoever.
Check out a map tracking where these sounds have been heard here.
While chemtrails and geoengineering have obviously increased in the last few months, this may be a new use of existing HAARP technology.
Scott Bug Owen of the Believers Underground believes this may be related to a possibility of his prediction of a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hitting the Cascadia fault line.
Regardless, we know those with Project Omega and others have been using space technology for decades. These sounds could be a manifestation of the use of related technologies.
It will be very interesting to see what kind of excuses the corporate agenda media will make as this startling information continues to reach more and more people. Actually, it should be easy considering how they were able to safely co-opt the coverage of the NDAA and SOPA.
As many others have already suggested, it is a smart thing to have an emergency plan and preparations made for your families during these trying times.

Officials Say ‘Toilet on Tap’ Wastewater Same Quality as Tap Water
by Mike Barrett
Natural Society
January 13, 2012
Do you think it might be possible that you’re drinking wastewater (also known as ‘toilet on tap’) and don’t even know it? It just so happens that many Americans are, whether they know it or not. But new federally funded research brought to you by the National Research Council says that wastewater is completely safe, if not safer than existing water supplies. What does this say about the current state of your tap water?
Drink More Wastewater, NRC Says
The NRC compared a sample of water taken from a normal source which had 5 percent wastewater and a sample which had been completely treated. Around 24 different contaminants were measured for in both samples, including pathogens. What the NRC found was that there was no different in risk between the two samples, and that the wastewater sample had fewer pathogens. Interestingly enough the NRC’s stance on consuming wastewater has completely changed from a little more than 1 decade ago, where they said that treated wastewater should only be consumed as a last resort.
The driving force behind the goal of the study is of course saving the water supply. As we continue to pollute our waters, less fresh water is becoming available for us to drink. More rivers, lakes, and underground aquifers are drying up as the years pass. As bodies of water around the world continue to dry up, we’re seeing more drought conditions spread. There are dust storms in places which have never experienced them until now. As time goes by, the amount of agricultural land shrinks, and deserts are growing.
Coming up with strategies to combat the potential clean water shortage that could soon be coming is a necessary measure to take. The United States alone uses about 148 trillion gallons of fresh water each year, and 36 U.S. states are either facing water shortages right now or will soon be.
Wastewater and Even ‘Normal’ Water is Not Safe for Your Health
However consuming even treated wastewater should not be an option for those seeking optimal wellness. Even if the wastewater is as safe as normal drinking water, it is still not safe – and neither is normal drinking water. Water contains pharmaceuticals, birth control residues, sucralose, chlorine, and all types of harmful substances. In fact, the fluoride in the water is damaging your health and may even be lowering your IQ along with contributing to cancer. Unfortunately turning to bottled water is not such a viable option either, where you pay 2000x more than you normally would for mystery water.
A solution to these problems? A water filter or reverse osmosis water filtration system. When filtering tap water, reverse osmosis is one preferred method in removing toxic substances such as fluoride and heavy metals. It does, however, also remove natural minerals and nutrients. Luckily a simple solution to this would be to add certain minerals to the water Use a mineral filter, himalayan sea salt, or even add apple cider vinegar to restore the natural nutrients back into the water.
