Mass Dolphin Death Mystery In Peru, Authorities Blame It On Viral Infection

Investigations are on into the deaths of hundreds of dolphins that washed up on the northern coast of Peru. Around 877 carcasses of dolphins and porpoises were found on Peruvian beaches in two and half months. Peruvian officials and environmentalists are trying to unravel the mystery behind the phenomenon.
No concrete reasons have been figured out yet but the authorities believe that it could possibly be a viral infection that may have killed the dolphins in huge numbers. While environmental groups in the country blame the seismic oil exploration work carried out by BPZ Energy Company for the dolphin deaths.
“The most probable hypothesis is the possibility of an infection with a virus,” he said. “There are scientific articles about the incidence of morbillivirus, a type of distemper, in cetaceans in Peru, and that can be ruled out or proven next week,” told Deputy Environment Minister Gabriel Quijandria to Associated press.

Canadian Government Moves to Outlaw Masks at Demos

It may soon be a crime to wear a mask in Canada. The Harper government supports a bill proposed by Conservative backbencher Blake Richards that would slam protesters in prison for five years if they wear a mask during a demonstration.
The legislation is supported by the Conservative majority and will likely become law.
Richards said the bill will give the police more power to prevent property damage. “I think it strengthens the right for peaceful protest. It’s only when individuals engage in criminal activity or become violent where this law would apply.”
It will also allow the police to more easily photograph demonstrators and identify and target them.
Richards’ bill follows a tuition hike protest in Montreal that turned violent last month. A student federation said the riot was caused by the police after they “quickly and brutally” intervened in the protest. The police said they were responding to vandals attacking the Montreal Convention Center.
Canadian police have a documented history of inserting agents provocateurs in demonstrations and then using their behavior as an excuse to attack non-violent protesters. In 2007, police “anarchists” were caught staging violence in Montebello during a NAFTA summit.

These weapons were used in Gulf War 1 against Iraq, then in the Balkans and later, after 9/11 events, in Afghanistan, Iraq, North Africa, Libya and now being used in Drone bombings in Pakistan.

This video shows Daniel Ackerman, Assistant Principal of I.S. 339, proudly demonstrating his ability to use his public school’s network to anonymously watch students using their laptops. At one point, he even unashamedly snaps a picture on a girl’s laptop while she is using the computer as a mirror. This is an incredibly creepy and troubling overreach.

Demonstrators have clashed with police at a rally organized by the opposition on Bolotnaya Square after several dozen protesters, including opposition leaders, broke from the crowd to organize a sit-down strike. Scores of demonstrators attempted to join the group and broke the police cordon. Clashes have erupted in several places at Bolotnaya Square. Police have been containing the crowd using only batons.
