21st Century Wire’s analyst Patrick Henningsen talks with RT News about the West and their Gulf State proxies’ backing of terrorist groups in Syria in order to accelerate regime change in Syria and to further destabilize the Middle East region. Washington and Britain are actively supporting al Qaeda and other FSA-related foreign fighters in Syria, a policy which is an international war crime and is costing thousands of innocent lives, and billions of dollars to western taxpayers and to the people in Syria.

UN Receives Complaint Over Canada’s Failure To Arrest Bush [video]
Conscious Life News
November 18, 2012
(Press TV)
Individuals who have accused the US government of torturing them filed a complaint against the Canadian government at the UN this week.
They say that Canada should have arrested credibly accused war criminal George W. Bush when the former US Commander-in-chief visited Canada last October.
In the year 2000 Canada enshrined the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act which is ostensibly aimed at preventing Canada from becoming a safe haven for war criminals. However the law has never been enforced on credibly accused war criminals such as Benjamin Netanyahu and George W. Bush who are afforded police protection when they visit Canada.
Prior to Bush’s controversial October 2011 speaking engagement Amnesty International issued the following advisory.
Amnesty International today urged Canadian authorities to arrest and either prosecute or extradite former US President George W. Bush for his role in torture. . . Canada is required by its international obligations to arrest and prosecute former President Bush given his responsibility for crimes under international law including torture.
Critics contend that the Harper government affords impunity to the protagonists of the “war on terror” because Canadian politicians themselves stand accused to complicity in torture and other war crimes. In late 2008 the Harper government amazed many when they shut down Canada’s parliament, analysts believe, to avert discussion of the mounting evidence of Canadian complicity in torture.

NATO Terror in Damascus failed to secure Damascus Airport.

December 1, 2012
Yesterday, 30 November at 12 o´clock CET insurgents succeeded in interrupting all internet and mobile phone traffic in Syria. The campaign was coordinated with attempts to conquer the civilian Airport of the county´s capital Damascus and key residential districts near the airport. Like previous coordinated attacks, such as the attempts to secure the cities of Aleppo and Homs, also this campaign failed and was defeated by the Syrian military. Internet and telephone connections however, are still not working.
Yesterdays sudden blackout of all internet connections and all mobile phones caused widespread speculation as well as worries among Syrians in Syria as well as abroad. Some media reported that the Syrian government had disconnected the internet and mobile phones, causing some speculation whether the government could have taken this initiative to prevent the detonation of explosives which are controlled by mobile phone technology.
The Syrian Ministry of Information however rejected the notion that it should have caused the blackout. According to Syrian government sources the blackout has been caused by terrorists. According to a nsnbc source who left Syria for Turkey to contact nsnbc, the blackout was caused by terrorists who has severed a main internet cable and attacked the countries most vital mobile phone installations.
The successful coordination of the attacks and the fact that the blackout was coordinated with fierce attacks against the airport in Damascus could indicate that the attacks have been assisted by one or several NATO country´s Special Forces which have been deployed to Syria since autumn 2011.
Several units of predominantly foreign terrorists initiated an attack on the civilian airport of Damascus. The attack was initiated when several rockets were fired into the airport. Some of the missiles hit the main runway, causing the intermediate closure of the airport. Egyptair and Emirates cancelled all flights to and out of Damascus and it is so far uncertain if or when the airlines continue operating out of Damascus.
Terrorists and Syrian military forces engaged in heavy battles in the Harran al-Awamid district near the airport as well as in Babila and Hijaira, south of Damascus. Terrorist units succeeded in blocking the main roads to and from the airport but were dispelled by the Syrian military. The primary objective of the coordinated attacks was most likely to secure the airport of Damascus. Another objective may have been to secure an area close enough to the airport for being able to deploy the SAM-7 and Stiner Missiles that have been distributed to the insurgents via Turkey, and which have been delivered by the post-coup government of Libya.
According to the latest reports nsnbc received from Syria at 21 o´clock CET, the Syrian military has successfully re-taken and secured the roads to and from the airport as well as terrorist held enclaves in Harran al-Awamid.
Damascus was also today the target of a car bomb attack that caused considerable structural damage to buildings and caused a yet unknown number of casualties. The blast today came only one day after yesterday´s blast that targeted the buildings and vehicles of PRESS TV and Al-Alam TV.
There is cause to assume that NATO Special Operations Groups are involved in attempts to organize a coordinated attack on Damascus. There is also good reason to assume that the internet, telephone, and to some extend media blackout will be used for disseminating disinformation with the aim to destabilize the Syrian government.
Both PRESS TV, Al-Alam as well as a number of independent media such as nsnbc continue reporting from Syria.

UN overwhelmingly votes to upgrade Palestine to ‘non-member observer state,’ will Israel retaliate?

The United Nations General Assembly voted to upgrade Palestine to “non-member observer state” with an overwhelming 138 to 9 and 41 abstentions, giving Palestinians the right to join the International Criminal Court and other treaty bodies.
One must wonder, however, how much this will actually change on the ground in Palestine. Will it prevent neighboring countries from blocking access to Palestinian land as they have done multiple times?
Will it lead to less disproportionate killing in conflicts and more clarity regarding ceasefire agreements? Will it force Hamas and other militant groups to take a less aggressive stance? All this remains to be seen.
Indeed, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the vote will actually do absolutely nothing to change the situation on the ground.
“This is a meaningless resolution that won’t change anything on the ground,” said Netanyahu in a statement issued by his office shortly before the UN vote was actually held, according to Reuters.
“No Palestinian state will arise without an arrangement ensuring the security of Israeli citizens,” Netanyahu stated.
This did nothing to temper the celebration in the streets of Palestine in the wake of the vote.
However, it displays a quite significant change from how Western nations have treated Palestine in the past, evidenced by Israeli news outlet Haaretz remarking that “officials in Jerusalem understood that Israel was left without any Western support except for the United States, Canada and the Czech Republic.”
“We lost Europe,” a senior official in the Israeli Foreign Ministry said, according to Haaretz.
They cite the shift beginning in France just a few days ago. Regardless of where it started, European Union nations largely supported the Palestinian request for non-member observer state status.
“Spain, Cyprus, Portugal, Luxembourg, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Malta, Ireland, Italy, Slovenia, Belgium, Sweden, Germany and Greece all joined France in the past few days,” Haaretz reports. “Norway and Switzerland, which are not members of the European Union, also announced their support for the Palestinian request.”
However, Germany actually abstained from the vote when it came down to it.
“Thursday’s vote exposed deep divisions within Europe over Palestinian statehood, with France, Italy and Spain supporting the Palestinians, and Germany and Britain casting abstentions,” reports The Washington Post.
“Our central objective is to achieve a return to credible negotiations in order to secure a two-state solution,” said Mark Lyall-Grant, the British envoy to the UN, according to the Post.
“We looked at the United States, with the strong and active support of the United Kingdom, and the international community, to do all it can in the coming weeks and months to take a decisive lead in restarting negotiations,” Lyall-Grant added.
The unfortunate reality is that Israel very well may retaliate in response to the UN General Assembly’s vote.
“Netanyahu, while hinting Israel may seek to retaliate, made no specific mention of punitive measures, in a shift in tone after eight days of fighting around the Gaza Strip,” reported Reuters.
However, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman reportedly made some quite heated statements earlier this month on the subject of the Palestinian upgrade request.
“If the … proposal is adopted at the United Nations General Assembly, as far as we are concerned this would be a complete breaking of the rules and it will elicit an extreme response from us,” Lieberman said according to the British Telegraph.
A similarly threatening statement was made by Environment Minister Gilad Erdan three years ago, according to Reuters. Erdan reportedly said that Israel might go as far as annexing some of the 120 settlements in the West Bank.
Yet Israel has now stepped back from these statements, instead threatening to withhold the $200 million in monthly transfers of duties collected by Israel on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.
Israel “says it will cover the PA’s debt to the Israel Electric Corporation,” according to Reuters.
Palestine, however, has not shown any rush to join the International Criminal Court, where they could potentially bring a case against Israel.
They have also pledged to restart the peace process immediately after the vote, although it remains to be seen if Israel will have any interest in actually participating.
While this upgrade is still far short of the status other countries enjoy, the current chances of Palestine achieving such as status are slim to none given the U.S.’s veto power in the United Nations Security Council.
