Full-service restaurant serving only ‘paleolithic’ caveman fare opens in Germany

(NaturalNews) The so-called “Paleo” diet has caught on like wildfire, with millions of people around the world embracing it for both weight-loss and health-promoting purposes. The diet has become so popular, in fact, that a new restaurant in Germany now serves only paleolithic food, which excludes popular modern-day foods like cheese, bread, and sugar.

The UK’s Daily Mail reports that Sauvage, which recently opened in Berlin, serves only organic, unprocessed food. Various fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, and herbs fill the pages of the restaurant’s menu. Customers will not find the usual wheat-based breads, dairy products, or refined sugar-laden treats available at most restaurants.

Diners at Sauvage do not have to worry about genetically-modified (GM) soybean or canola oil tainting their foods, either. The restaurant uses only ghee, also known as clarified butter; homemade clarified lard, which is actually far healthier than oil and butter substitutes; and unrefined palm and coconut oil to cook its foods.

5 Memory-Boosting Foods

Mike Barrett

October 29, 2011

The ability to store, retain, and recall information could possibly be one of the most important aspects of success. If you are unable to remember appointments, meetings, people’s names, or information in general, life will inevitably be a struggle to say the least.

With eating habits down in the dump and food being tampered with, it is quite difficult to attain the necessary vitamins and nutrients to improve memory. Thankfully, improving memory can be as simple as making some dietary alterations.

Skip Memory-Loss | Improving Memory by Changing what You Eat

If you’re consuming fast food, food made or brought to you by multi-national corporations, and processed food, then there is a good chance that your memory isn’t as strong as it could be.

Although memory-loss generally comes with old age, many people are suffering memory-loss while teenagers and young adults. The quest for improving memory doesn’t need so be so difficult.

As with almost all other health complications, the solution can be as simple as choosing the right foods.

Fish

human brain is made up of 60 percent fat. Fish contain healthy omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to not only help with memory and overall brain function, but also aid in depression and brains disorders such as schizophrenia. Fish contain docosaexaenoic acid (DHA), which is important for the normal functioning of neurons. Eating fish, however, can often be a health concern due to high toxicity. To avoid this issue, you may want to try a combination of supplementation and eating fish to reduce some toxicity while still receiving the benefits.

Apples and Blueberries

Two fantastic foods to improve memory, as well as overall health, apples and blueberries contain a powerful phytochemical and antioxidant known as quercetin. Quercetin has been shown to protect against Alzheimer’s, as well as reverse aging, leading to a slowed escalation in age-related memory-loss. When consuming apples, it is important to note that much of the nutrients are found in the skin; quercetin is no exception.

Black Eyed Peas and Spinach

Folic acid has a direct relationship with memory and overall brain health. It has been shown to protect memory as well as make for faster processing of information and memory recall. One reason for folic acid’s effectiveness is due to it’s ability to lower blood levels of homocysteine, an amino acid shown to cause health complications in high amounts.

Change the Way You Live

If you are seeking to improve memory, do not ignore these foods. Although it is great to know how to improve memory through the consumption of specific foods, the ultimate goal should be to live an overall healthy lifestyle so that memory-loss doesn’t become an issue in the first place. Exercise regularly, eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, and avoid the disease-riddled food brought to you by mega-corporations.

Peanut butter prices set to spike in wake of shortage

Ray Henry and Sarah Skidmore
The Globe and Mail
October 12, 2011

Consumers should be prepared to shell out a bit more for peanut butter soon.

Another hot, dry summer in key producing states and competition from more profitable crops like cotton have significantly shrunk the U.S. peanut crop this year. The tight supply means consumers will soon pay more for yet another grocery staple.

U.S. farmers are expected to produce roughly 1.8 million tons of peanuts this year, down nearly 13 per cent from last year, according to a survey released Wednesday by the Department of Agriculture. Assuming that estimate holds, it would be the smallest harvest recorded since 2006.

Peanut butter producers already have plans to hike prices for peanut butter significantly in the next few weeks. Those who package nuts for snacks say they are watching their competitors to determine whether price hikes will be necessary.

BPA Leads to Fertility Defect in Offspring

Bishphenol a (BPA), the headline-topping chemical commonly found in plastics, cans, and food packaging has been tied to yet another negative condition — adversely affecting male genital development and subsequently targeting fertility rates.

If you have been following the latest BPA research, then it should be no surprise to you that BPA has been repeatedly linked to diabetes, breast cancer (with over 130 total studies), hyperactivity and depression, and countless other conditions.

BPA alters Anogenital distance, heavily tied to fertility in men

The study, which involved the World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Research in Human Reproduction, examined the effect of BPA on Anogenital distance (AGD).

AGD is the distance between the genitalia and the anus, and is biologically very important. AGD has been linked to fertility in males, making the affect of BPA on the male reproductive system quite significant.

Linked to both semen volume and sperm count, men with an abnormally short AGD (lower than the median around 52 mm (2 in) have seven times the chance of being sub-fertile as compared to those with a longer AGD.

This is particularly startling due to the fact that BPA has been found in 90% of babies’ cord blood.

Researchers examined 153 boys, 56 with parental occupational exposure during pregnancy and 97 without. After factoring in the weight and age of the boys using regular linear regression, the study found that parental occupational exposure to BPA during pregnancy was associated with shortened AGD in male offspring. What this means is that those who were exposed to high levels of BPA during pregnancy were found to birth offspring with AGD defects. But what about those who do not deal with BPA exposure through their occupation?

Outside of directly working with BPA-containing items, there are many other venues of BPA exposure that could be affecting your health:

  • 18 out of 20 of the most popular food cans are laced with BPA
As more research comes out on the dangers of BPA, it will become more apparent to the general public how important it is to reduce daily exposure and utilize natural BPA solutions. From causing cancer to fertility, there is simply no reason to keep BPA around.

Canada Declares BPA Toxic. Is the U.S. Next?

Disinformation
October 15, 2010

Bryan Walsh writing for the Ecocentric Blog at Time Magazine:

It’s used almost everywhere. It’s in almost all of us. It does weird things to rodents and it may be doing weird things to us—but it’s tough to be certain. Bisphenol-A (BPA) has become a litmus test for how people view environmental health and the risks of common household chemicals—as I wrote in a long story for TIME earlier this year. The chemical has countless industrial uses, most often in the epoxy liner of cans and in plastic bottles. But BPA is also an endocrine disruptor, meaning that it has the capacity to mess with our hormones and potentially impact health—especially in developing fetuses—even at relatively low doses. (Because they can mimic hormones—which cause enormous changes in our bodies even at relatively low amounts—the dose-response relationship used to evaluate traditional toxins like lead may not work with BPA.)

An Overlooked Source Of Hormone-Altering Bisphenol-A? Paper Receipts

Jacob Sloan
Disinformation
August 2, 2010

When you’re handed a receipt at a drug store or supermarket, you might be accepting more than you wish: scientists have announced that about half of paper receipts from stores and ATMs are coated with bisphenol-A, a chemical which affects the endocrine system, contributing to reproductive problems and cancer. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able buy groceries without risking an involuntary sex change? The Washington Post reports:

The Environmental Working Group found BPA on 40 percent of the receipts it collected from supermarkets, automated teller machines, gas stations and chain stores. In some cases, the total amount of BPA on the receipt was 1,000 times the amount found in the epoxy lining of a can of food, another controversial use of the chemical.

October 24, 2011

(NaturalNews) In October 2011, Nikola Aleksi, leader of Ecological Movement of Novi Sad in Serbia, was arrested and fined. Earlier on his way to a conference in Belgrade, an attempt was reportedly made on his life. And Monsanto has sued him with the threat of removing him and his family from their rented flat as “collateral.”

Why all the fuss? Nikola made a spirited speech, recorded on video, challenging the Serbian president for allowing GMOs to come into Serbia. He also challenged the Serbian government for allowing planes to spray chemtrails in the Serbian skies.
