Thanks to the available findings of a 2006 study showing that cannabis actually reduces the number of cancer cells, medical marijuana users can now feel even better about the widely abolished pain relief ingredient found in the plant. The relationship between marijuana and cancer has always been up for debate, but with the use of a specially crafted oil made from the buds of the Cannabis Sativa plant, scientists confirmed that the plant’s primary psychoactive chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) destroys any and all malignant cancer cell growths in several patients. Details on the marijuana and cancer prevention connection aren’t exactly known, but further, more extensive testing will reveal exactly what may be causing this seemingly miracle cure.
Shedding Some Light on the Marijuana and Cancer Relationship
Back in 2006, the study was developed by a team of medical researchers at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s Pharmacology and Toxicology department on leukemia patients. The researchers essentially outlined that if taken daily for an extended period of time, cannabis oil actually reverses the growth of cancer and possibly leads to remission in the patient – with zero added side effects. Typically when a leukemia patient enters a hospital for admission and treatment, they are given a very extensive chemotherapy treatment, usually paired with a radiological treatment. Instead of considering any possible treatment involving marijuana and cancer, doctors use these not only ineffective, but also dangerous treatments. Cannabis, on the other hand, as shown in the study, has virtually no side effects. It is especially safe and effective when administered in a clean, medically sound environment and in the form of oil.
Other studies have been made over the past decades much like this one: Manuel Guzman located in Madrid, Spain discovered that cannabinoids substantially inhibit the growth of tumors in a variety of lab animals. In the study he also found that not one of these tested animals endured any kind of side effects seen in many similar chemotherapy treatments. It is becoming increasingly clear that you can sidestep any of the misery associated with traditional cancer treatments and embrace the potent, effective healing powers of THC – not to forget about the positive attributes surrounding cannabis’ other primary cannabinoid, cannabidiol (CBD).
If the results don’t appeal to you, then maybe the 2,500 total studied patients throughout these 37 controlled studies will blow the lid on the myth that cannabis is and can only be used as a “dangerous” drug. None of the patients reported any kind of adverse side effects from the use of THC and based medication – further adding to the benefits of medical marijuana and strengthening the positive connection between marijuana and cancer.
The real irony in the situation here? The combined governments of the world are the primary authority behind more than 30 studies like these completed throughout the years – and kept them secret from the general public. It wouldn’t be very conducive for our government if word got out that a schedule 1 narcotic could actually help people.
For patients who need medical marijuana, the progress of LED grow lights has been closely watched. The lights, which promise greater energy efficiency and lower heat than their high pressure sodium and metal halide cousins, have gained increasing visibility in the cannabis community.
LEDs (short for light emitting diodes) were first invented in 1927. More efficient than nearly any other type of artificial light, these diodes were too weak to be a contender for growing plants until recently.
But continuing research has resulted in LED lights that are more powerful than ever before. Within the last few years, many LED grow light systems have sprung up on the market for indoor gardeners.
Some claim the LED grow light technology may finally put the cultivation of a few marijuana plants within reach of anybody who has a few extra bucks and a spare closet.
On paper, LED grow lights seem to outperform HPS grow lights (the current standard for growing marijuana) in almost every way.
The mayors of eight British Columbia cities have added their voices to the growing chorus of prominent figures calling on the provincial government to legalize, tax, and regulate marijuana. In a joint letter last Thursday to provincial elected officials, the mayors said it was time to “tax and strictly regulate marijuana under a public health framework.”
The letter was signed by Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, as well as the mayors of suburban Burnaby and North Vancouver and the mayors of the interior communities of Armstrong, Enderby, Lake County, Metchosin, and Vernon.
The letter was posted on the web site of Stop the Violence BC, a coalition of public health officials, academics, legal experts, and law enforcement officials. The group has been calling for the development of and implementation of marijuana laws that reduce social harms, such as crime and gang violence.
Despite “an endless stream of anti-marijuana law enforcement initiatives,” the herb remains easily available to young people, the mayors said. “Based on the evidence before us, we know that laws that aim to control the marijuana industry are ineffective and, like alcohol prohibition in the US in the 1920s, have led to violent unintended consequences.”
None of this is surprising in a province where 66% of the population supports marijuana legalization, according to an Angus Reid poll cited by the mayors. But it runs directly counter to the direction of the Conservative federal government, which not only opposes legalization, but recently passed crime legislation that for the first time imposes mandatory minimum prison sentences for some drug offenses, including the cultivation of as few as six marijuana plants.
Student Was Detained By The DEA After Attending A 4/20 Party
Daniel Chong is a 23 year old student at UC San Diego. Chong was at a friend’s 4/20 celebration in University City, California when the DEA raided the party. The DEA took Chong to their office in Kearny Mesa. According to NBC, “He said agents questioned him, and then told him he could go home. One agent even offered him a ride, Chong said. No criminal charges were filed against him.”
Seems like a straight forward case right? Far from it. Instead of being sent home, Daniel Chong was placed in a 5 by 10 foot holding cell for five days without food and water. The DEA agents placed him in a holding cell and forgot about him. “They never came back, ignored all my cries and I still don’t know what happened,” Chong told NBC. “I’m not sure how they could forget me.”
In Chong’s desperation, he said he was forced to drink his own urine. “I had to do what I had to do to survive….I hallucinated by the third day,” Chong said. “I was completely insane.” After Chong was finally discovered, the DEA gave him a ride to the hospital and paid for the bill. However, still to this day they have yet to issue an apology.
By the time Chong got to the hospital his kidneys were failing, there were signs that he was completely insane, and signs that he tried to take his own life while in his delusional state. When I first red this story, I thought there was no way this could be true. How is this possible in America? Sadly, it is all true. I hope Mr. Chong sues the pants off of the DEA.
Is this what we want our tax dollars going to? To raiding 4/20 parties and treating the participants like terrorists at a torture center? There should be people protesting outside of the DEA center in Kearny Mesa 24 hours a day. Daniel Chong, I don’t even know what to say brother. I’m sorry that you had to go through that, and I hope that you make those jerks pay out the nose.
Apparently displeased with its thriving tourist industry, the Dutch government has decided to implement a ban on the sale of weed to foreigners. As of may 1st, 2012, only Dutch citizens who have registered for a ‘Weed Pass’ will be allowed to buy cannabis from the world-famous ‘Coffee Shops’. Naturally, the Coffee Shop owners, the public, and even the local government officials are opposed to this new regulation. The only ones who are in favor of it are those who will benefit from it: the federal government, those who want a police state, and probably the organized crime syndicates.
