EPA Study: Ground Water Contamination “Consistent With” Fracking

by The Berkey Guy, Sponsor

West Virginia’s The State Journal published a story today that you should read and share with others.

You might be familiar with news articles discussing the debate on hydraulic fracturing or “fracking.” Fracking is controversial because of the risk it poses to supplies of water. The issue is really that simple.

The trickiest parts for us to decipher in all of these arguments are that they are tainted by both sides of of this debate.

On one hand, you have companies such as Chesapeake Energy who promote the practice because of their for-profit existence, citing safe practices and employing subtle and persuasive language. Even on the opposing hand, you have public organizations and governmental departments such as New York’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). I commend them for issuing the following statement on their website, in specific regard to fracking in the Catskill and Delaware watersheds:

This area [Catskill and Delaware watersheds] is also underlain by relatively thick sections of the Marcellus shale that is targeted for natural gas development. Natural gas development at the rates and densities observed in comparable formations will be accompanied by a level of industrial activity and heightened risk of water quality contamination that is inconsistent with the goals and expectations for an unfiltered water supply system. While DEP is mindful of the potential economic opportunity that this represents for the State, hydraulic fracturing poses an unacceptable threat to the unfiltered water supply of nine million New Yorkers and cannot safely be permitted with the New York City watershed.

I strongly urge anyone interested in exploring the issue further to watch the movie by Josh Fox, titled Gasland. Here is the trailer:

Do not get lost in the debate that the Executive Director, Nicholas “Corky” DeMarco, of West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association offers on the matter. He follows in the same pattern that other execs display in representing their companies. They seek to divert attention, and distract from the primary issues which are evident in the data presented against them. For example, DeMarco defers to a colleague’s comments in order to cast doubt on the credibility of contamination:

‘He said they don’t have aquifers, they have pockets where water collects…Here in the Kanawha Valley, everybody’s well is generally in the same aquifer.  His explanation to me was that there, water pools up in pockets rather than in one formation that might go on for miles and miles and miles. Wells could be in totally different pockets.’

Furthermore, similar statements calculated to discredit the EPA’s findings were mentioned by Encana Oil and Gas.

Morgellons Cure? (video)

The Truther Girls
December 7, 2011

Morgellons is horrible, debilitating a mystery disease. What adds to patient’s suffering is the fact that the medical establishment is ignorant when it comes to this condition, and doctors usually diagnose patients as having ‘delusions of parasitosis’, a mental disorder. Some people have found relief with various alternative treatments, but this is the first time I have heard of anyone being cured, with the condition not coming back after treatment is stopped.
Note: I am not being paid to do this and I do not sell any products mentioned in this video. I personally know someone whose husband was apparently cured of morgellons using what i describe in the video.

Mysterious white goo repeatedly found blanketing cancer-stricken Turkish city — are chemtrails to blame?

by Ethan A. Huff
Natural News
November 24, 2011

(NaturalNews) Residents of Dilovasi, an industrial suburb just outside of Istanbul, Turkey, have been looking for answers concerning a mysterious substance that, on numerous occasions, has been found covering cars, trees, clotheslines, and vegetable gardens throughout the city. Milliyet, a Turkish newspaper, reports that government officials are currently trying to identify the source of this sticky goo, which has reportedly made a number of people ill and ruined local crops.

According to Hurriyet Daily News (HDN), the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey is conducting an investigation into the matter, but only after local media began to report that the substance could not be washed or removed from clothes, crops, and other contaminated items.

“My products were worth at least 20,000 Turkish Liras (about $10,695), but they are all destroyed now. Cabbage, leeks, and other produce items were ruined by the goo. I cannot sell these to anyone. I have to throw them away. This substance also covered the windows of my greenhouse and it blocks the sunshine,” said Alaattin Illik, a Dilovasi resident and greenhouse owner.

According to Digital Journal, local officials in Dilovasi, which is a heavy industrial area with roughly 200 industrial plants around the area, have been accused of covering up the severity of toxic pollution in the area. This fact is made evident by the higher-than-usual cancer rate in the area, which is roughly 30 times higher than the national average.

But another possible explanation for the unidentified chemical blankets is “chemtrails,” a chemical spraying program in which jets deliberately release various materials into the stratosphere. Following days of heavy chemtrail spraying, anomalous materials and substances similar to the kind found in Dilovasi have been observed in a variety of places around the world.

Unlike normal jet exhaust contrails that dissipate quickly, chemtrails linger in the sky and often spread into artificial clouds. In some instances, these chemtrails actually leave behind what appears to be particle dust residue, spider web-like filaments, and slimy goo similar to what is being found in Dilovasi (http://www.willthomas.net/Chemtrail…).

Be sure to watch the following segment from a 1997 episode of Unsolved Mysteries where residents of Oakville, Wash., were sickened by unidentified goo falling from the sky:

Did you know? Microwave popcorn gives off a toxic, lung-damaging gas when cooked

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Natural News
December 12

(NaturalNews) You might be reassured to learn that the buttery flavor in microwave popcorn typically comes from a chemical actually found in butter, but you shouldn’t be. This chemical, called diacetyl, is so toxic that it commonly destroys the lungs of workers in microwave popcorn factories, afflicting them with the crippling and irreversible disease known as bronchiolitis obliterans. Bronchiolitis obliterans is so rare outside of this context that it has become more commonly known as “popcorn lung,” after the primary cause of the disease.

Regulators and health professionals have known of this risk for decades, but always assumed that it would only affect people breathing in especially high concentrations in factory settings. Then in 2007, a man who regularly ate two bags of microwave popcorn every day was diagnosed with popcorn lung, indicating that diacetyl enters the air and lungs when microwave popcorn is cooked. Anxious to reassure consumers, most microwave popcorn companies phased out diacetyl — only to replace it with chemicals that have the same effects.

Today, you can still find diacetyl in many flavored snack foods and even in some so-called “natural” foods. Make sure you read the ingredients of any food you intend to consume, and make sure it contains no diacetyl (and no “yeast extract” for that matter, either).

4 Ways to Naturally Purify the Air in Your Home

by Anthony Gucciardi
Activist Post
December 13, 2011

How toxic is your home?

While most people spend the majority of their time outdoors, indoor air quality may actually be more threatening to your health than outdoor air. Considering the fact that outdoor air is hit with factory pollution, harmful chemicals, and much more, it is truly shocking to know that indoor air quality can be up to five times worse than outdoor air.

It is important to begin purifying the air in your home, and you may be surprised to know that to beginning this process does not require an expensive air purifier.

Here are 4 ways to naturally purify your home that you can begin immediately:

1. Use the Right Kind of Paint (Low-VOC)

The type of paint that you use inside your house can affect the overall air quality of your home. Volatile organic compounds, known as VOCs, are actually released by paints for months after application. What exactly are VOCs? These highly toxic chemicals can include formaldehyde, which was recently classified as a carcinogen by the United States government. When using VOC-containing products, the compounds will slowly release into your home, threatening the health of you and your family.

It is important to note that varnishes and waxes may also contain VOCs. Use low-VOC or no-VOC products when it comes to household painting, varnishing, or waxing.

2. Avoid Synthetic Household Cleaners, Art, and Beauty Supplies

Synthetic household products may also be introducing harmful chemical into your home. The chemicals that produce fragrance react with ozone in the air to form formaldehyde and ultrafine particles that can collect in the lungs. This effect is not limited to household cleaner, however. Hair and nail products as well as art and hobby supplies can also increase the level of VOCs in your home.

Popular air freshening products have also been found to trigger allergies and asthma.

For a safer room freshener, dip cotton balls in a sweet-smelling extract like vanilla and stash them around the house.

3. Test Your Home for Radon

Radon is a deadly invisible and odorless gas, commonly found in the basements of older homes that have not been properly tested and protected against radon gas. With it being the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers and the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer period, radon gas is not something you want in your home. Scientists have even estimated that radon causes thousands of deaths annually.

Testing your home for radon is easy, inexpensive, and is vital to ensuring that your home is free of toxins.

4. Ventilate

Proper ventilation of your home is key to removing unwanted toxins from inside your home. Oftentimes during the winter months it becomes a challenge to routinely open your windows and properly ventilate your home. As a result, toxins can accumulate inside without the possibility of being released. If you live in a climate that allows for proper window ventilation all year long, then you will be able to avoid the issue and keep your windows open for a few hours each day.

Even during the winter season, however, keeping your windows open for just a few minutes per day can make a difference. If possible, place a fan in one window to blow indoor air outside, and another facing inward to blow outside air in. This will allow for optimum circulation of the air, bringing in fresh new air and removing toxic air buildup.

Aloe Vera: Mircale Plant

BobTuskin.com
By Bob Tuskin
December 8, 2011

Growing up in South Florida, it was common to see Aloe vera in and outside of people’s homes. My mother when I was growing up would always have Aloe growing at our home and would use it topically for sunburns, as it is commonly used. But Aloe is far more versatile.

Not only can it be used topically for damaged skin, but also can be consumed internally. The medicinal value of Aloe is far under-estimated, and I hope this paper sheds light on the many benefits of this crop.

Aloe vera is a species of succulent plants. Aloe is the genus name and vera is the species name. Vera means genuine or true.  The genus Aloe is believed to have originated in the Sudan, although I could not find a source other than Wikipedia to confirm this.

It “grows in arid climates and is widely distributed in Africa, India, Nepal and other arid areas

I personally have seen it all over Florida and the Caribbean. However, in North Florida the freeze may get to it, so many keep their Aloe in a pot and bring it inside during a freeze

There are many different types of Aloe, but I would like to focus on the variety commonly known as Elephant Ear. Elephant Ear is stemless and has large green leaves with a gel between them.

The reason why I chose to write about the Elephant Ear variety is because, when I was first introduced to its benefits by Cephas , I was told that Elephant Ear was the type most fit for human ingestion

Gingrich ‘Proposed the Death Penalty for Marijuana’

by David Edwards
RawStory

December 12, 2011

Over the weekend, struggling Republican presidential candidate Gary Johnson reminded MSNBC viewers that GOP frontrunner Newt Gingrich had once to called to punish some drug offenders with death.

“Newt Gingrich, in 1997, proposed the death penalty for marijuana — for possession of marijuana above a certain quantity of marijuana,” Johnson explained. “And yet, he is among 100 million Americans who’ve smoked marijuana.”

“I would love to have a discussion with him on the fact that he smoked pot, and under the wrong set of circumstance he proposed the death penalty for, potentially, something that he had committed. I have troubles with that,” he added.

Johnson, a former New Mexico governor who has advocated for marijuana legalization since 1999, is at least partially correct about Gingrich’s position.

As Speaker of the House, Gingrich introduced the “Drug Importer Death Penalty Act of 1996.”

The bill would have required a “sentence of death for certain importations of significant quantities of controlled substances.” It would have applied to anyone convicted more than once of carrying 100 doses — or about two ounces — or marijuana across the border. Defendants would have had a window of 18 months to file their one and only appeal.
