SmartMeters send almost 10,000 signals a day
by David R. Baker

Pacific Gas and Electric Co.’s wireless SmartMeters are designed to communicate directly with the utility, eliminating the need for meter readers.
Turns out they do a lot of talking.
According to a document PG&E filed with the California Public Utilities Commission this week, the typical meter sends out almost 10,000 radio-frequency signals per day.
The signals are very, very brief. Add them together, and the meter’s total transmission time equals a little more than 45 seconds per day. And the signals’ peak energy level falls well within federal standards, according to a PG&E spokesman.
Wi-Fi radiation from laptops may cause infertility in men

(NaturalNews) Laptops with wi-fi technology have given us the capability to connect to the internet almost anywhere, but now researchers say wi-fi radiation may also be giving us more infertility by decreasing sperm motility and damaging DNA in sperm.
Is Your Wi-Fi Laptop Hurting Your Sperm?
Published in the medical journal Fertility and Sterility, the study looked at how radiation emitted from wi-fi laptops impacts sperm health. Researchers in Argentina took semen samples from 29 healthy men, and they measured sperm motility after four hours of exposure to wi-fi radiation from a laptop wirelessly connected to the internet. Sperm in the control group was kept at the same temperature for the same amount of time, but was not exposed to wi-fi radiation.
Of the sperm exposed to the wi-fi radiation, 25 percent stopped swimming. Only 14 percent of unexposed sperm ceased to swim after four hours. Wi-fi sperm also showed 9 percent DNA fragmentation, or irreversible damage in the genetic code, while sperm in the control group only showed 3 percent.
Electromagnetic radiation is a product of wireless communication, and researchers suggest this radiation may be causing sperm damage. “We speculate that keeping a laptop connected wirelessly to the internet on the lap near the testes may result in decreased male fertility,” say the researchers in their report. They also recommend more studies be done to examine the long-term impact of wi-fi radiation on sperm in a real world setting.
It’s important to note researchers compared radiation emissions in wi-fi laptops to laptops without wi-fi connection. Emissions from laptops without wi-fi were negligible, while emissions from wi-fi laptops was significantly higher.
Previous studies on laptops and fertility have produced similar results. Another legitimate concern is scrotal hyperthermia (elevated testicle temperature), which can easily occur if you sit with a laptop in your lap for hours at a time. Scrotal hyperthermia negatively impacts sperm quality and can cause decreased fertility.
The solution? Keep the laptop off your lap. Laptops may have been designed for convenient lap placement, but this is obviously not best for your health. Instead, use your laptop on a desk or get a specially designed laptop tray.
Also, use a wired internet connection when possible, as it appears the radiation emitted from wi-fi communications may be particularly harmful to sperm.

This week on Fukushima Update we highlight a study showing the spread of radioactive materials from the stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean. We also look at some radiation symptom maps, examine the possibility of using mushrooms to remediate the soil around the plant, highlight a French report saying that all 58 French nuclear reactors need upgrades, and go over today’s daily update.
Your wireless router may be putting you in danger

(NaturalNews) The debate surrounding the relative dangers of electromagnetic radiation has raged on for years. As technology has become more and more advanced, and more electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, are created, the fact that electromagnetic radiation can be harmful cannot be ignored. Wireless routers, one of the most convenient products in homes across the world, can actually contribute high levels of EMF exposure to your home.
What Are EMFs?
When any kind of electronic device is used, it often creates its own EMF. The structure of the EMF varies, depending upon the frequency and intensity of the electricity; however, all EMFs have the power to become harmful if you are exposed to them too often or for long periods of time.
It is clear, then, why having so many technological gadgets in one’s home can be dangerous. By living amongst a variety of EMFs, you can interfere with the delicate electricity that works within your own body.
The Dangers of EMF Exposure
When your body’s electrical system is altered, there are several different health problems that can occur. These include brain tumors, exhaustion, heart problems, and a higher risk of cancer, including leukemia. Furthermore, people have reported other health conditions associated with EMF exposure, but research has not yet confirmed the long-term effects that electromagnetic radiation from household items can have on an individual.
Why Are Wireless Routers So Dangerous?
When it comes to the dangerous technological devices within your home, wireless routers contribute a great deal to EMF exposure. Wireless routers allow electronics to communicate without the inconvenience of wires, but in doing so they are spewing massive amounts of radiation throughout your home. In fact, an average wireless network can transmit radiation at the same frequency as a microwave.
But the intensity of the radiation is not the only danger. Whereas other electronic devices are turned off at some point during the day or night, wireless routers are on all the time. This results in your home being covered in EMFs every hour of every day. Furthermore, the wireless networks of your neighbors may be infringing upon your space. If you can pick up a neighbor’s wireless signal on your laptop, then their EMFs are infiltrating your home.
What Can You Do to Protect Your House?
The best thing you can do to avoid overexposure to EMFs is to cut down on the amount of electronic devices that you use. If you are not using a particular computer, printer, scanner, television, microwave, or other technological gadget, go ahead and turn it off and unplug it. Unplugging it is important, because even if these devices are off they can still emit radiation.
Furthermore, if possible, forgo a wireless router and stick with the traditional, non-wireless alternative. This may be a challenge if you have several laptops that you use to connect to the Internet, but if you primarily use a desktop you should be able to achieve this without any problem. Additionally, opt for a printer that plugs into your computer, rather than one that connects electronically. If you cannot go without a wireless router, try to limit EMFs in other areas of your home by unplugging anything you are not currently using.
Wireless routers can be a dangerous source of EMFs, and if you can do without them, you can greatly improve your family’s health. If not, cutting back on the use of other electronics can help reduce the total radiation to which your family is exposed.

Riddle of the radiation sweeping across Europe: experts mystified by soaring level
Daily Mail
November 12, 2011
Very low levels of radioactive iodine-131 have been detected throughout Europe, but the particles are not believed to pose a public health risk, the U.N.nuclear agency said on Friday.
NASA have released images of 2,400 stars, known as the Tarantula Nebula, that are producing intense radiation and powerful winds, believed to be the cause for the detection in the atmosphere
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Vienna-based U.N. watchdog, said it did not believe the radioactive particles were from Japan’s stricken Fukushima nuclear power plant after its emergency in March.
Professor Malcolm Sperrin, director of medical physics at Britain’s Royal Berkshire Hospital, said any link with Fukushima was extremely unlikely. ’It is far more likely that the iodine may be as a result of excretion by patients undergoing medical treatment.
