A Canadian federal judge says the country’s intelligence agency has asked foreign security agencies to spy on Canadian nationals abroad.
Federal Court Judge Richard Mosley censured the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) for deliberately keeping the country’s Federal Court “in the dark” to bypass the law to spy on Canadians, Russia Today reported on Sunday.
The judge said that he had been deliberately misled by CSIS to authorize interception of electronic communications of unidentified Canadians abroad.
CSIS had also assured Mosley that the surveillance was to be carried out from inside the country. However, the spy agency outsourced the task to intelligence agencies of the United States, Britain, Australia, and New Zealand.
“It is clear that the exercise of the court’s warrant issuing has been used as protective cover for activities that it has not authorized,” the judge wrote in a court document, adding, “The failure to disclose that information was the result of a deliberate decision to keep the court in the dark about the scope and extent of the foreign collection efforts that would flow from the court’s issuance of a warrant.”
Moseley also said that such actions put the life of Canadian citizens abroad at risk as they “may be detained or otherwise harmed as a result of the use of the intercepted communications by the foreign agencies.”
Under the country’s law, the Federal Court has does not have the authority to issue warrants involving surveillance of Canadians by foreign intelligence agencies, the judge added.

Ottawa woman escapes jail time at sentencing for $115k welfare fraud

A 38-year-old woman who inappropriately claimed more than $100,000 from welfare over the span of a decade was given a two-year conditional sentence Monday.
Shera St. Martin has so far paid back $50 of the $115,646.90 she pocketed from Ontario Works from 1998 to 2008. It will likely take years for the mother of two to pay back the rest.
Crown prosecutors said her living arrangement made her ineligible for welfare during the 10-year period. She was charged last December, but only pleaded guilty to one count of fraud over $5,000 on Sept. 12. Court heard she received welfare while, at times, living with the father of her children.

Something strange happened yesterday that a variety of people brought to my attention, Dean Clifford was arrested. Here’s the video of it:
What is interesting about this arrest is the following posting I saw online confirming something that I was informed of by another individual:
This second mention while still not 100% verifiable is enough to make me mention this and wonder what was going on. Make of it what you will. The cops waited until AFTER Dean’s seminar to arrest him. Dean went along willingly from what I have read, without resistance, despite the fact that nobody saw a warrant for his arrest, nor was he informed of the charges (or anybody else for that matter).

If you’ve ever wondered what a massive electrical surge from an electro-magnetic pulse weapon, solar flare or cyber attack might look like, then take a look at this footage shot in Montreal.
In this instance the surge caused a cascading electrical outage across one neighborhood. Imagine what such an event would look like across the entire national power grid.
Then consider how long it would take to bring essential services like hospitals, communication system, commerce processing, and banks back online.
According to former Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, we’re talking not days or weeks, but months and years before utility workers would be able to repair key transformers and nodes.
We could have events in the future where the power grid will go down and it’s not, in any reasonable time, coming back up.
For instance, if when the power grid went down some of our large transformers were destroyed, damaged beyond use, we don’t make any of those in this country. They’re made overseas and you order one and 18 months to two years later they will deliver it.
Our power grid is very vulnerable. It’s very much on edge. Our military knows that.
