The Harper government is examining whether to dispatch Canadian troops to help train an African force whose purpose would be to take back a vast swath of Mali from an off-shoot of al-Qaeda.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay, speaking in Halifax Sunday, said what form of military assistance can be provided to a growing international swell is something that’s under active discussion.

“What I can tell you is that we are contemplating what contribution Canada could make,” MacKay said at an announcement related to rental housing rates on military bases.

The United Nations recently decided to back a proposal from Economic Community of West African States — ECOWAS — to send 3,300 troops to the region.

Canadian special forces troops were active in the west African country for several training missions prior to the coup last March that installed a shaky interim government. Those missions also took place before Islamic Maghreb — known as AQIM — overran much of the northern portion of the impoverished nation.

“We are not at a point where we would be making an announcement, but as you know, training is something that the Canadian Forces is particularly adept at doing,” MacKay said. “We’ve demonstrated that repeated in the last, well, throughout our history, but certainly the training mission in Afghanistan is a testament to that commitment and that ability and something that has garnered the admiration of recipient nations but also other countries who emulate Canadian training techniques.”

Canada Takes Unprecedented Step Towards A Cashless Society [video included]

January 2, 2013

Over the years we have heard and seen many people warning of the coming cashless society. Religious groups have been warming people about the “mark of the beast” for ages. It has always been something that was considered to be in the distant future, but not anymore!

BA International, a banknote printing operation in Ottawa owned by Giesecke & Devrient in Germany, stopped printing currency (including Canadian) as of January 1 2013. You read that right! As of January first, no more Canadian currency is being printed. Source

Why have they stopped? According to BA International it is due to a decrease in demand for new bills, thanks to the new plastic currencies longer life expectancy.

Are the plastic bill so good that we simply do not need to print anymore money?

In a short answer, of course not! Take a look at the multiple cases of the plastic $100 dollar bills melting.

When the federal government was asked by the Canadian press (in a FIOA request) about the bills melting. They basically refused to give any information, citing national security concerns. Source

Can the plastic bills still be lost? Get damaged? Of course. So the idea of them being so great that we don’t need to print anymore currency is absurd! The real agenda is a cashless future.

According to a poll conducted by Paypal Canada. 56% of Canadians would prefer using a digital wallet then cash already. Source

With acceptance numbers above the 50% mark, the Royal Canadian Mint has begun to slowly release the Mintchip.

The concept of digital currency will slowly be advanced over the coming years, while the physical money supply diminishes. Leaving our future generation with a low supply of physical cash, and an abundance of technology for digital currency. To them it will only make sense to make the move to digital, because it will be all they have ever known.

The Defence Department has quietly removed from the Internet a report into the killing of a Canadian military officer by Israeli forces, a move the soldier’s widow says is linked to the Conservative government’s reluctance to criticize Israel for any wrongdoing.

Maj. Paeta Hess-von Kruedener and three other United Nations observers were killed in 2006 when the Israeli military targeted their small outpost with repeated artillery barrages as well as an attack by a fighter aircraft.

IN early 2008, the Defence Department posted on its website a 67-page report from the Canadian Forces board of inquiry into the killing. The board found Hess-von Kruedener’s death was preventable and caused by the Israeli military.

‘NATO to wage war on Syria in New Year’ [video]

PressTV
December 27, 2012

An analyst says NATO is preparing for a “military intervention in Syria” in the New Year with a major US fleet now off the Syrian coast in the Mediterranean and Patriot missiles being installed in the country. The comment comes as a senior Israeli official says the United States is gearing up for a possible military intervention in Syria to prevent Syria’s alleged chemical weapons from being used against civilians or falling into wrong hands. Israel’s Minister for Strategic Affairs Moshe Ya’alon told Israel Radio on Thursday that Israeli officials were in close touch with their American counterparts about the latest developments in Syria.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Ken Stone with the Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War from Hamilton to further discuss the issue at hand.

Iran slams Canada for delisting MKO terrorists

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has censured Canada’s move to delist the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) from its blacklist of terrorist organizations.

“While the international community and the world’s public opinion consider terrorism as one of the main challenges to the world and have drawn up clear regulations to fight this vicious phenomenon, the Canadian government removes the MKO from its list of terrorist organizations,” the Iranian Ministry said in statement on Monday.

“This measure does not change the terrorist nature of this group. The use of terrorism as a tool, besides being a violation of international commitments, is a dangerous act that can undermine international peace and security,” it added.

The Ministry seriously warned Canada against becoming a haven for terrorists and cautioned against the dangers of such acts to the security of the Canadian society.

The statement said the “irresponsible” measure by the current Canadian government would not remove its responsibility to provide the security of Iranian expatriates in Canada and to safeguard the assets of the Islamic Republic against any violent or terrorist act by the MKO on Canada’s soil.

Canada’s government said Thursday that it had removed the MKO from its official list of terrorist organizations.

Ottawa’s move to delist the MKO terrorist group followed similar moves by the United States and the European Union.

The MKO is responsible for numerous acts of terror and violence against Iranian civilians and officials.
