Thousands of Houthi demonstrators have once again taken to the streets in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a to condemn the killing of more than a dozen of Shia Muslims by government forces, Press TV reports.
The protesters chanted on Thursday slogans in condemnation of Yemen’s National Security Intelligence Agency, calling for the suspension of the activities of the agency.
“The nation wants the dismantling of the National Security Intelligence Agency!” they shouted.
The demonstrators also called on the country’s authorities to prosecute those responsible for the latest murders of Houthi protesters.
On Sunday, a large number of the protesters gathered outside Yemen’s National Security Intelligence Agency headquarters in Sana’a under a rally called “Loyalty to the Blood of Our Martyrs.”
On June 9, Yemeni forces killed 13 Shia Houthi protesters and wounded 100 others during a demonstration outside the agency’s headquarters.
Human Rights Watch has demanded an investigation into the killings.
Yemen’s Zaidi population, also known as Houthis, have long been protesting about oppression and discrimination by Yemen’s Saudi-backed government.
Yemen’s Shia Houthi movement draws its name from the tribe of its founding leader Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi.

Thousands of people are still stranded by flash floods in India, where the death toll has risen to 182. Over 10,000 army personnel, 18 helicopters and an Air Force transport plane have been deployed for relief and rescue operations, as residents are stranded at tourist spots and pilgrim centers. With the weather set to improve, the government is moving to supply additional emergency food to the flood-stricken region.

Lebanese activists clash with the riot police during a protest against the extension of the parliament term in Beirut on June 20, 2013.
Clashes have erupted in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, between security forces and demonstrators protesting the extension of the parliament’s term.
The clashes between the protesters and security forces took place on Thursday near the parliament building.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
On May 31, 2013, the Lebanese government decided to extend the parliament until November 2014, while the lawmakers’ term has actually terminated.
The demonstrators are now calling for the government to hold a parliamentary election originally scheduled for June, so that people can elect a new legislative body.
They criticized the extension of parliament as unconstitutional and urged the government to respect democracy.
