An earthquake in Southern Maine reverberated all the way to the Boston metropolitan area at 7:12 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Registering at a 4.5 magnitude, the temblor was centered 3.7 miles Maine’s Lake Arrowhead, Reuters reported.

Fallout: War on Iran [video]

by James Corbett

October 16, 2012

For years now, the drumbeat for war with Iran has been growing steadily louder from the Likudniks in Israel and their ideological bedmates in Washington. Weary, exhausted, and economically depleted after a year of disastrous entanglements in the Middle East, it is hard to believe that the American public is eager for yet another conflict, yet every few months without fail there are new signs that the Israeli leadership is sharpening their tools of warfare and cries are renewed in the corridors of power in Washington for unflinching support for whatever action Tel Aviv decides to take. As we examined last week, this drumbeat has reached fever pitch yet again in the last few months, and now Washington insiders, think tanks and policy wonks are once again openly discussing the possibility of staging a false flag event to blame on their Iranian enemy and launch a “retaliatory strike.”

But what would the fallout of such an action be? Find out this week on The Eyeopener with James Corbett.

Syria: Rebels losing support in Aleppo

by James Foley
GlobalPost
October 16, 2012

ALEPPO, Syria — Behind the mansion they were occupying, a group of half-naked rebels whooped with joy as they cannonballed into the murky, half-filled swimming pool.

It was July in the small town of Anadan, about 10 miles from Aleppo, Syria’s largest city. Anadan was a ghost town, deserted except for the Free Syrian Army and the sounds of the near constant barrage of regime shelling.

The junior commander, an illiterate 24-year old, joked that while the war raged all around it, the people of Aleppo were only concerned about their barbecues. He swore the rebels scrabbling through the countryside would soon make their way to Aleppo. He promised Aleppo would burn.

Three months later, Aleppo is on fire. The 1,000-year-old market has been gutted, and the rebel-controlled west lies in ruins. Last week’s massive suicide car bombings, which leveled blocks of the government center, left craters some 10 feet deep.

Mitt Romney sidesteps a question on the NDAA, and bumbles around for awhile afterwards at a town hall in Mt. Vernon, OH.

He had already said he would sign NDAA in January, so maybe he has amnesia?

Fun to watch:

Dalton McGunity Steps Down As Ontario Premier

by Terry Wilson

October 16, 2012

Soon to be former Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty Announced this evening that he is stepping down from his post, but will remain in office until a leadership convention can be held.

McGuinty has spent the last 16 years as leader of the Liberal party, and the last 9 years as the Premier. Dalton attended the 2006 Bilderberg meeting, and during his administration the province of Ontario’s credit rating was lowered by Moody’s. Ontario is facing massive debt and austerity cuts thanks to his leadership, and he has been wrapped up in several scandals including an out-of-control air ambulance service.

Earlier today he faced more contempt motions due to cancelling 2 gas plants, costing the people of Ontario millions of dollars. But insisted that this was not the reason for his resignation. He stated that the fight over a public sector wage freeze, was the main factor.

I for one am not shedding any tears in his departure, but has left me curious to see how a new liberal leader could (or would) do anything different.
