Campaign to Save Nikola Tesla’s Lab Reaches Goal [video included]

Six days ago we posted a link in our Forum to a campaign that was issued in order to raise enough money to purchase Nikola Tesla’s laboratory now up for sale at Wardenclyffe. A non-profit is seeking to raise $850,000 in order to match a grant of the same amount by the State of New York to secure the $1.6 million property and keep it out of the hands of a potential real estate developer who has put in an offer that might erase the site and legacy of a genius whose inventions transformed our world.
The Guardian reported that in the first couple days of the campaign issued by comic creator of The Oatmeal, Matthew Inman, that $500,000 had been raised in the effort. The $1.6 million total price secures the land only, but the hope is to raise even more in order to build a Nikola Tesla Science Center.
The latest update for this campaign is incredible: the total donated with 37 days still remaining in the campaign has surpassed the initial goal and now stands at $988,769 according to the donation website due to the massive online fundraising effort. There has been no official announcement yet about when the purchase will proceed, but we will continue to issue updates. For now, it appears that solid grassroots activism has secured a piece of history.

Another crop circle was reported in Wiltshire on August 23rd, 2012. The formation was found in Oxleaze Copse, near Stitchcombe, Wiltshire and has a symmetrical design that consists of circles outlining a square shape, a middle line which intersects nine others which seems to lay on top of a larger circle that is placed in the middle of everything. Something to note is the circular swirl pattern of the fallen crops that show up in non-circular sections in the middle of the formation.

University study finds that computer viewing habits can contribute to dry-eye syndrome

- If you squint your eyes too much while looking at your computer screen, you could end up with a painful condition called dry eye, Ohio State University researchers warn.
- Their study of 10 college students found that just a slight amount of squinting at the computer screen reduced blink rates by a half — from 15 blinks a minute to 7.5 blinks a minute.
- The more the students squinted, the less they blinked.
- The less the students blinked, the more their eyes ached or burned, and the more they reported sensations of dryness, irritation and tearing in their eyes.
- “People tend to squint when they read a book or a computer display, and that squinting makes the blink rate go way down,” study lead author James Sheedy, a professor of optometry, said in a prepared statement.
- So if your job requires a lot of reading or other visually intense work, you may be blinking far less than normal, which may cause eye strain and dry eye,” Sheedy said.
- While it can be painful and irritating, dry eye is rarely a debilitating condition.
- It’s usually treatable with over-the-counter eye drops, the researchers said.
- The study was published in a recent issue of the journal Optometry and Vision Science.
