Chamomile Shown to Battle Anxiety, Depression

by Elizabeth Renter

September 5, 2013

When you think of chamomile, you likely think of the tea that can help you fall asleep. Relaxation is certainly the most commonly known benefit of this plant. But, there are many other benefits, and scientists have found this power to relax could extend to even fight anxiety and depression.

A study from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, initially undertaken in 2009, indicated chamomile to have remarkable benefits in the treatment of anxiety. For that randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, researchers gathered a group of individuals including 19 who were diagnosed with anxiety and depression, 16 who were diagnosed as having a history of anxiety and depression, and 22 people who had no anxiety or depression either in the past or the present.

Half of the group was treated with chamomile capsules and the other half was given a placebo. Over a period of eight weeks, their anxiety was scored using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating (HAR) to determine any changes. Three other tests were also used to confirm their findings.

Single Serving of Coconut Oil can Boost Brain Health Significantly

by Christina Sarich

September 3, 2013

Perhaps you already know about the numerous health benefits of coconut oil, but were you aware that in as little as one daily serving, the medium chain triglycerides (MCT) or ‘healthy’ fats in coconut oil can start to repair slow neural pathways and improve cognitive functioning and memory? This is true for people of all ages, but especially in senior adults.

The connection between coconut oil and Alzheimer’s prevention and even reversal has been made stronger than ever, as evidenced in recent studies like the one published by the journal, Neurobiology of Aging.

Why Eat (Healthful) Fat?

While many people believe they should avoid fat altogether, medium chain fatty acids are vitally important for our health. They help to:

  • Prevent vitamin deficiency since many vitamins like vitamin D are only found in fatty parts of foods (good, not man-made fats, like hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils which have been tampered with by man) and are therefore called fat-soluble. This means your body can only absorb these vitamins by eating healthful fats.
  • Good fats can increase the bio-availability of fat-soluble nutrients needed for multiple tasks in a healthfully functioning body.
  • Good fats support both physical and physiological health in developing children, starting as early as during fetal development.
  • As we age, medium chain fatty acids can help prevent cognitive laziness and loss of memory.
  • MCFA or medium chain fatty acids (which are slightly different than medium chain triglycerides, but also found in coconut oil) are also extremely helpful at reducing belly fat.

The primary healthy triglyceride found in coconut oil is lauric acid, which is found abundantly in a mother’s breast milk. To build a strong body, especially a well-functioning brain, you need fatty acids. Along with balanced glucose levels, full chain amino acids and important micronutrients can keep your brain functioning at high levels from cradle to grave. Consuming coconut oil is a great way to boost not only brain health, but overall health as well.

Ginger: Truly Among Great Medicines of the World

by Christina Sarich

August 29, 2013

For centuries, people around the world have used used ginger for medicinal purposes. So did Confucius. He said he never ate a meal without it. Henry VIII recommended ginger to keep the plague away. English taverns in the nineteenth century used ginger in their beer. The Romans and Greeks used the herb in place of dramamine for long voyages at sea. Indians used it in Ayuverdic concotions. This incredible ‘hand’, or root of the Zingiber officinale, is an incredible food with numerous and wonderful healing qualities that have been experienced for at least the last 4400 years, if not longer.

Ginger originates from Southeast Asia, but grows well in multiple climates. It now grows all over Europe, the US, China, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and elsewhere.

Full of antioxidants, iron, phosphorous, potassium, riboflavin, and more, ginger can kill salmonella as well as other undesirable viruses (including the common cold), and clots blood better than onion or garlic while reducing blood coagulation by inhibiting the cell synthesis of thromboxane. The spice can lower ‘bad’ cholesterol, can be used as a drug-free pain killer, helps with stomach ailments, and reduces nausea. It improves digestion by increasing salivary and stomach secretions.

Japanese biochemists have also proven that ginger is one of many cancer-fighting foods, reducing cell mutation which can lead to cancer. Another study coming to similar conclusions showed that ginger extract triggered apoptosis of G cells HCT 116 and HT 29 – cancer causing cellular lines.

Check out this article for a more in-depth and complete list of the health benefits of ginger.

Ginger can be used in cooking, taken as a supplement, or even consumed in teas or ginger candies. In India, children are given ginger to guard against whopping cough. Just a ¼ teaspoon of ginger per serving of cooked foods can deliver a great zing to vegetables or broths for soup and deliver all the powerful medicine that ginger offers to cure multiple ailments. You can grate the root into a pulp and use it fresh or find an organic extract to use in a pinch. Ginger never fails to deliver great taste and overall immune support and physical well-being.

Fluoridating Water Supplies Keeps Us Dumb, Docile, and Sick [video included]

by Paul Fassa

August 29, 2013

Several international studies to date have demonstrated that fluoride added to water is causing numerous health complications, including reduced IQ ratings among children. The notion that drinking fluoridated water contributes to healthier teeth has not been proven, and is slowing disintegrating into thin air. As a matter of fact, there is more evidence that fluoride is harmful rather than helpful

There has been controversy over the activity of adding fluoride to municipal water supplies and elsewhere, but not enough. The seriousness of this issue is more than what most realize, which is why most developed nations refuse to fluoridate their water. Actually, Israel is the latest nation to completely halt water fluoridation, mandatory and voluntary.

Fluoridation ranks with GMO’s, chemically tainted toxic foods, and vaccinations as crimes against humanity. You’ll soon see why implementing some sort of fluoride detox protocol is so important.

Coconut oil halts tooth decay by attacking the bacteria that cause it

by Jonathan Benson, staff writer
Natural News

August 29, 2013

(NaturalNews) If health authorities are going to remain insistent upon lacing the water supply with additives to thwart tooth decay, then they really should be using all-natural coconut oil rather than fluoride chemicals, based on the findings of a new study. Researchers from the Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) in Ireland have found that coconut oil effectively inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria that can cause cavities and mouth infections, without causing any harmful side-effects.

For their study, a team of researchers from the school added enzymes to coconut and several other oils to mimic how these oils would normally be processed during digestion. The team then applied the digested form of each of the oils to several strains of bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans, a common acid-producing bacteria often found inside the mouth, and Candida albicans, a highly problematic yeast strain that can cause oral thrush infection.

What they discovered was that only the coconut oil exhibited clear antibacterial and yeast-fighting properties when exposed to the different bacterial strains. In fact, enzyme-modified coconut oil was found to fight all sorts of bacterial strains without triggering any negative side-effects, or promoting the development of antibiotic-resistant “superbugs” like antibiotic drugs do.

“Incorporating enzyme-modified coconut oil into dental hygiene products would be an attractive alternative to chemical additives (like fluoride), particularly as it works at relatively low concentrations,” said Dr. Damien Brady, lead researcher from AIT, about coconut oil’s amazing antibacterial power. “Also, with increasing antibiotic resistance, it is important that we turn our attention to new ways to combat microbial infection.”

Adding to this sentiment, Dr. Brady also noted that the human digestive system naturally exhibits antimicrobial activity, at least when it is given the proper foods and nutrients. Consuming more coconut oil, in this case, can effectively boost immunity and thwart the onset of harmful, disease-causing pathogens in the mouth and elsewhere throughout the body.

Coconut oil is far more effective at fighting, preventing tooth decay than toxic fluoride

What is particularly interesting about these dramatic findings is that coconut oil was demonstrably shown in a credible study to fight harmful bacteria and prevent tooth decay. Fluoride, on the other hand, which is pumped into water supplies nationwide that hydrate millions of people, has never been legitimately shown to fight or prevent tooth decay when ingested.

What this new study on coconut oil actually helps unearth is the fact that water fluoridation is a complete scientific fraud. Not only has fluoride never been proven to prevent tooth decay when ingested, but recent studies have actually shown that fluoride harms teeth. Ingesting fluoride, it turns out, can cause dental fluorosis, as well as some other very serious health problems in the long term.

“Once ingested, fluoride compounds attack the structural integrity of our insides,” says Shane Ellison, author, chemist, and founder of ThePeoplesChemist.com. “Collagen, a web-like network connecting our skeletal system to muscles, is torn apart by fluoride. We feel it as joint stiffness, ligament damage, and aching bones. This same mechanism leads to browning of teeth, an outcome known as fluorosis.” (http://www.naturalnews.com)

Coconut oil, on the other hand, will not only help protect your teeth against bacterial rot, but it will also help improve digestion and metabolism, promote heart health, boost energy levels, and strengthen immunity (http://www.naturalnews.com/Infographic-Benefits-of-Coconut-Oil.html). Since ingesting coconut oil converts it into a powerful bacteria-fighter, as illustrated by the study, “swishing” coconut oil can also promote improved oral health via the enzymatic activity of its mixing with saliva.

Prescribed Sleeping Pills Linked to Premature Death, Cancer

by Christina Sarich
Natural Society

August 28, 2013

The recommended daily average night’s sleep is just over 8 hours, but only 35% of Americans are getting their rest. With these kind of statistics, it’s no wonder we turn to sleeping pills as a way to try to reverse insomnia; however, one study published by the British Medical Journal has shown that pharmaceutical sleeping pills prescribed by your doctor can lead to an increased death threat of up to 4 times. It also found that those prescribed sleeping pills were more likely to develop cancer.

Electronic medical records of over 35,000 patients were surveyed to find a statistical baseline for this claim, and it was found that even those who took FDA approved medications as few as 18 times per year were still negatively affected. Prescription drugs that are supposed to help us sleep like Ambien, Restoril, Lunesta, and Sonata can actually harm us.

Some argue that those who take sleeping pills and suffer from insomnia already have an underlying health condition, aside from stress, which is causing them to have sleepless nights. A family practice physician at Cleveland Family Medicine, Dr. Scott Nelson said, “I think the underlying conditions which may require sedative-hypnotics are the culprits, not the medicines themselves,” however it is also a known fact that sedation causes sleep apnea. (Here are some herbal sleep remedies to help treat insomnia and sleep apena.)

This can interrupt the body’s natural rhythms of sleep and waking, and cause long-term hormonal imbalances that are only worsened with ongoing use of pharmaceutical drugs. Dr. E. Cuyler Hammond at the American Cancer Society conducted his own studies on patients taking sleeping pills and found that patients who took sleeping pills died 4.6 times more often than those who didn’t. Furthermore, those who took sleeping pills more than 130 times a year were 35% more likely to develop cancer. These studies were conducted back in 1975, and confirm the findings of the British Medical Journal’s currently published study.

The following drugs were found to have an especially pronounced affect on mortality in Hammond’s assessment:

  • Zolpidem
  • Temazepam
  • Eszopiclone
  • Zaleplon
  • Triazolam
  • Flurazepam
  • Estazolam
  • Quazepam
  • Barbiturates (esp. phenobarbital)
  • Antihistamines, mainly diphenhydramine

All of the aforementioned medications lead to an increased probability of developing cancer. Another alternative for sleeplessness might be natural remedies – here are 6 natural sleep apnea treatments.

Beware: PSA prostate cancer screening test is a dangerous hoax, warns discoverer of prostate specific antigen

by Paul Fassa
Natural News
August 27, 2013

(NaturalNews) Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. By the age of 50, most men have some cancerous prostate cells, although many will never know it unless they are screened, and most will not die from it.

Luckily, it’s a slow growing cancer. Although prostate cancer cases increase with age, still, only about 3% of men actually die from it.

The American Cancer Society states that in 2013, approximately 238,590 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed and estimates that about 29,720 men will die from it.

Interestingly, they also state, “Prostate cancer can be a serious disease, but most men found to have prostate cancer do not die from it. In fact, more than 2.5 million men in the United States who have had prostate cancer at some point are still alive today.”

PSA screening disaster

The standard PSA (prostate specific antigen) test was approved by the FDA in 1994, and each year millions of men are screened via a blood test for the PSA antigen, which is manufactured exclusively by the prostate gland.

For many men, this is when the serious life threatening trouble begins. Early, aggressive allopathic prostate cancer treatment can and does cause permanent damage, including impotence, heart attacks, incontinence and even death from a disease that is, ironically, statistically unlikely to kill them.

No-Holds-Barred indictment of PSA testing

In 1970, Richard J. Ablin discovered the PSA. In a 2010 N.Y. Times Op-Ed piece titled, “The Great Prostate Mistake,” Mr. Ablin sets the record straight.

“As I’ve been trying to make clear for many years now, PSA testing can’t detect prostate cancer and, more important, it can’t distinguish between the two types of prostate cancer – the one that will kill you and the one that won’t.”

Ablin explains that a PSA test merely measures how much PSA or prostate specific antigen is in your blood. Although elevated levels of PSA can be detected, that alone does not necessarily indicate prostate cancer.

Why? Because common over-the-counter medications like Ibuprofen, benign prostate enlargement (an inevitable part of aging) and infections also elevate PSA levels. Men with high PSA readings can be cancer free, while those with low readings can actually have cancer!

Ablin exclaims, “I never dreamed that my discovery four decades ago would lead to such a profit-driven public health disaster. The medical community must confront reality and stop the inappropriate use of PSA screening. Doing so would save billions of dollars and rescue millions of men from unnecessary, debilitating treatments.” (Emphasis added)

The respected British medical journal, Lancet, reported on 13 February 1993 early screening often leads to unnecessary treatment and “33% of autopsies show prostate cancer but only 1% die from it.”

Dr. Tim O’Shea, a maverick Doctor of Chiropractic, holistic health lecturer, author and founder of the doctorwithin.com website states: “This means that the immune system can hold many problems in check, as long as it is not compromised by powerful [and/or toxic] procedures.”

Gina Kolata of the New York Times cited two studies published in the March 2009 edition of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine that concluded PSA screening increased mortality!
