Montreal Protesters Push Back Riot Cops, Provocateurs Act Up [video]

The Truther Girls
April 28, 2012

The protest last night was massive but had a vibe of peace and solidarity to it. Just before I left, a couple of people smashed a window with rocks, but I suspect they were provocateurs based on a witness’ description of the culprits’ garb and M.O. Moreover, Eric Bouthillette, who was on the front lines the whole night, reported that there were people dressed in provocateur-style gear at the head of the protest trying all night to start confrontations and being stopped by the rest of the protesters. At about 2:00 am the next morning, about 30 arrests were made. According to Eric, the protest ended with a conflict between the vandals/ provocateurs and the rest of the protesters. Some people were breaking windows and the mass of protesters were trying to stop them, which resulted in a conflict among the marchers themselves and not between the marchers and the police.

Essentially, provocateurs or hooligans were trying to start trouble and the legitimate protesters tried to stop them, and people were arrested as a result of this scuffle. Is this a divide-and-conquer tactic being implemented? Isn’t this easier than trying to contain thousands of people or bring on martial law?

The protests continue and so far they have been taking place largely at night. The police seem to be concerned above all with protecting commercial establishments and preventing the protest from interfering with commerce. They would hate for the protesters to start marching during the day, but if this continues, that is likely the next thing they will do.

The government will then have to decide whether they should give in to the protesters’ demands or bring out the army, because the crowds are so large (and determined) that they cannot be controlled by the police or the SQ.

The third option, as I mentioned before, would be to subvert the marches with provocateurs.

I’d like to point out something people often overlook, which is that the main reason tuition is still so low in Quebec is not that we just have a nice government, but that THIS is what happens when they try to hike it up. Will it work again this time or will our NWO corporate police-state government take it to a whole new level?

Chaos in my Hometown! Protests, Riots Explode in Montreal [video]

The Truther Girls
April 27, 2012

The riot squads have been called in, next is the Securite de Quebec (SQ) and if that still doesn’t quell the uprising, the next step will be to call in the military- which means there is a good chance we might have martial law in Montreal if this continues. But what are we supposed to do? Let the government keep selling us out and picking our pockets?
I haven’t made it down to the protests myself, but I hear the helicopters every night and will try to do some live coverage as soon as a get an opportunity.

Violence erupts at ‘illegal’ student protest in Canada [video]

Russia Today
April 27, 2012

Week-long demonstrations over a proposed rise in university tuition fees have erupted into violence in Quebec. Police in Montreal clashed with thousands of students who accuse the government of sabotaging negotiations for a settlement. Riot police have so far arrested 85 people after a government exclusion of a student group from talks triggered activist ire. Students have flooded Montreal’s streets over the past few days, up in arms over tuition fee hikes that would see costs rise by 75 percent over the next five years. Thursday’s riots were declared illegal after demonstrators reportedly pelted police officers with projectiles and threw garbage into the streets.

Is the Student Loan Bubble About to Burst? [video included]

by Eric Blair
Activist Post

April 25, 2012

In February of this year, the S&P warned that student loans may be the next bubble to burst in US economy. Moody’s also issued a similar warning in 2011.

With the interest on student loans set to double on July 1st, will it pop the student loan bubble, or is it the necessary medicine to slow down the growth of the bubble?

It seems we won’t have that debate because politicians in Washington, including both Obama and Romney, agree that raising the interest on student loans will be an “enormous burden that threatens the economic recovery.”  In other words, keep the bubble going to win middle-class votes and avoid any pain.

In either case, students are already suffering from having to paying back massive principal balances because the cost of attending college has increased 439 percent from 1982 to 2007, and even more since then. Meanwhile, during that same period, median family income only rose 147 percent.

If those numbers weren’t ugly enough, CNBC reports that the total student loan debt in the U.S. is $870 billion, surpassing credit card debt, with two-thirds of it being owed by citizens under 30 years old. What’s more, this interest-rate increase comes just when it was reported that over half (53%) of recent college graduates are unemployed or underemployed.

All of these numbers seem to ensure that all recent grads face a lifetime of debt servitude, especially since student loans cannot be canceled in bankruptcy.

Through no fault of their own, students have been lulled into believing that they must attend college to be successful.  This myth is the engine of the college bubble, while cheap, easy, low-interest money from the government has been the fuel that has caused the cost to soar far beyond the rate of inflation.

An increase in interest payments would be even more catastrophic for already over-burdened college graduates. Yet, unfortunately, it may be just what is needed to slow down the growth of the bubble and save a few young people from the prison of debt.  As such, it is just one more of the many reasons not to attend college.
