Aaron Swartz was considered by many to be a computer prodigy and online activist who sought to maintain a free and open internet. He was instrumental in launching the initiative to block SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act) and he was very outspoken about a number of controversial political issues. In the wake of his untimely death we must remember the example that he set and we must continue what he started by doing everything in our power to maintain a free and open internet.

Reddit co-founder and co-creator of RSS feed Aaron Swartz died two days ago at the age of 26. The official cause was suicide, but is there more to the story? History shows us that dozens of activists and scientists whose deaths have been attributed to suicide have died under highly suspicious circumstances. This includes Rik Clay, Andrew Breitbart, Hunter S Thompson, many other politicians and activists and about 100 scientists, especially microbiologists.

PANDA (People Against the National Defense Authorization Act, the NDAA) announces the kickoff of Operation Homeland Liberty.
On January 3, 2013, PANDA launched Operation Homeland Liberty. The goal of this operation is to stop the indefinite detention provisions of the NDAA (National Defense authorization Act) in all 50 states across America by December 31st, 2013.
We are launching this effort for two main reasons. Firstly, we now have the network and resources necessary to push back against this encroachment by the Federal government. The Tenth Amendment Center, Patriot Coalition, Freedom Outpost, Western Journalism, and We Are 1776, among others, are assisting us in restoring the Constitution nationwide.
Secondly, we are running against the clock. Even though the courageous efforts from the plaintiffs in Hedges v. Obama have elicited one ruling that the NDAA is unconstitutional, the civil liberties score of the 2nd Circuit Court of appeals and the Supreme Court leave little chance that ruling will be upheld in the higher courts. Odds are, the NDAA will be ruled Constitutional by 2014.
If the NDAA is declared Constitutional before there is a major stand from the states, it will then be extremely difficult to restore the rights usurped by this legislation. Very few County Commissioners, City Councilmen, State Representatives and Sheriffs will take a stand against the NDAA once it has been declared Constitutional.
Because we are running against this clock and now have the network to combat this tyrannical law, we launched Operation Homeland Liberty. We are kicking off this operation in Wood County, OH on January 15th, 2013 @9:15 am in the Wood County Courthouse.
If you are in the area, please join us at the event. We are aiming to have 100 people attend. If you are not in the area, please call the Wood County Commissioners at 419-354-9100 and politely urge them to use PANDA’s resolution to stop the NDAA in Wood County, OH.

The debate on the NDAA conference bill has just ended. The House will now vote on the bill and no doubt it will pass.
Earlier this morning a D.C. insider indicated to us that leadership had maneuvered to keep opponents from speaking against the bill. Apparently they were successful as only three Representatives rose to speak against it: Nadler (D-NY) Thornberry (R-TX) and Franks (D-MA). Once again “conservative” Republicans are conspicuous in their absence.
Recall that a proposed GOP resolution against the NDAA was killed at the August convention with the help of our own Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a Romney supporter and advisor. (It’s on tape.) Romney indicated on two separate occasions that he would have signed the 2012 NDAA.
Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler from Missouri spoke in favor of the NDAA. She was grateful for the bacon it was sending to Missouri. Several of the supporters noted the money that the NDAA would put into their states. What unabashed corruption.
Earlier this month House Speaker Boehner’s hatchet committee removed four conservative Congressmen from their respective committees: Tim Huelskamp (KS – Budget Committee), Justin Amash (MI – Budget Committee) and Walter Jones (NH – Financial Services Committee) and David Schweikert (AZ – Financial Services Committee). One thing these four conservatives have in common is that they voted against the NDAA 2012. I guess party comes before the Constitution with Party boys like Boehner and his handers.
The NDAA went to the conference committee with the Feinstein- Lee Amendment but it was stripped out of the bill and a rewrite of Texas Representative Louie Gohmert was slipped into the final conference bill. Feinstein said: “I was saddened and disappointed that we could not take a step forward to ensure at the very least American citizens and legal residents could not be held in detention without charge or trial. To me that was a no-brainer.”
Representative Gohmert in his speech in support of the bill acknowledged that it did not protect U.S. citizens’ constitutional rights including Habeas Corpus when they are outside the country. He said that was a bill for another day. Yes, he supported a bill he acknowledged as being unconstitutional.
Recall that last year Kansas’ Lynn Jenkins sent a joint letter to the conference committee telling then the citizen detention provisions of the 2012 NDAA were unconstitutional and advising them to remove such. Of course the unconstitutional provisions were left in. Yet Jenkins still voted for a bill she knew to be unconstitutional. Subsequently at a 9-12 meeting in Topeka she acknowledged the bill had problems but felt “the Supreme Court will straighten it out…”
The only member of the Kansas federal delegation to stand up for the Constitution has been Tim Heulskamp. The rest including your Senators voted against your bill of rights.
Below is the current status of the NDAA with this provision:
1. By the NDAA and this amendment Congress is asserting it has the authority to deny American citizens and others in the U.S. their constitutional rights, that is false,
2. This amendment does not protect anyone from being detain on mere suspicion,
3. This amendment does not ensure a detainee will get any trial let alone a civilian trial,
4. It implies that U.S. citizens do not have or Congress can take away citizens’ constitutional rights when they are outside the U.S.,
5. It is up to the President and those under his command whether a detainee is simply held, goes before a military commission or is transferred to the civilian authorities for a civilian trail, in the latter event this amendment kicks in,
6. The Habeas Corpus issue is a red herring as that issue was resolved before the NDAA,
7. These provisions provide coverage for the President’s assertion he has independent authority to indefinitely detain and assassinate U.S. citizens as the Supreme Court has deferred this issue and decided based on statutory provisions.
What is wrong with our elected officials who either do not understand what their oath to protect the Constitution requires of them or simply disregard such? More to the point what is wrong with “We the People” that allow them to commit what Chief Justice John Marshal called “treason to the Constitution” and then vote for them again.
We are the agents of our own demise.
Blogger James MacArthur Denied Bail, Facing Multiple Assault Charges for “Threatening” Tweets

Blogger James MacArthur of the “Baltimore Spectator” has been denied bail again, and could now be facing new assault charges for tweets that he made which were allegedly “threatening to police”. Apparently now tweeting can legally amount to assault.
All month theintelhub.com has been doing a series of exclusive reports on the story of Frank James MacArthur, founder of the “Baltimore Spectator” activist blog and radio show.
After years of exposing crooked cops and politicians in his community, MacArthur became a target for police aggression, even more so recently because he was beginning to publicize information that would cost a few people high up in local government their jobs and reputations.
In early December, MacArthur was the victim of an elaborate kidnapping where dozens of armed SWAT team members were sent by the state to coax him out of his house and snatch him up so he could be taken to the Baltimore City dungeons, where he remains today.
Today the Baltimore Sun reported that:
“A Baltimore circuit judge denied another bail request Friday for the blogger who held a publicized standoff with city police this month that was broadcast live to thousands of listeners. Judge Lynn K. Stewart said Frank James MacArthur, also known locally as the Baltimore Spectator, posed a continuing threat to public safety and should remain jailed without bail.
It was the third time that MacArthur, 37, who lives in the Waverly neighborhood, has been denied bail. MacArthur’s attorney, Jill P. Carter, called the revocation a knee-jerk overreaction when many other suspects facing similar charges are often offered bail. MacArthur faces two weapons charges: illegal possession of a firearm and possessing an unregistered shotgun. He has no felony convictions, Carter pointed out.”
Carter, his attorney, said that “It’s a charge that doesn’t warrant his being held without bail. His history doesn’t indicate he’s a threat to public safety.”
In addition to the phoney gun charges that have already been thrown against him, prosecutors are also now talking about bringing up assault charges over tweets made during and prior to the standoff which were apparently “threatening to police”.
The article goes on to say that:
“Prosecutors said in court Friday that they plan to file second-degree assault charges against MacArthur for the alleged threats he made against officers attempting to execute an arrest warrant on Dec. 1. Mark Cheshire, a spokesman for the state’s attorney’s office, said later that the number of charges will correlate with the number of officers MacArthur allegedly threatened; prosecutors did not have a specific number Friday.”
It is obvious that he has been targeted because of his activism and his outspoken attitude towards authority.
He has been relentless on issues of police brutality and legal oppression, and has probobly been an annoyance to the department for years.
