Lebanese police clash with activists protesting parliament extension

PressTV
June 20, 2013

Lebanese activists clash with the riot police during a protest against the extension of the parliament term in Beirut on June 20, 2013.

Clashes have erupted in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, between security forces and demonstrators protesting the extension of the parliament’s term.

The clashes between the protesters and security forces took place on Thursday near the parliament building.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

On May 31, 2013, the Lebanese government decided to extend the parliament until November 2014, while the lawmakers’ term has actually terminated.

The demonstrators are now calling for the government to hold a parliamentary election originally scheduled for June, so that people can elect a new legislative body.

They criticized the extension of parliament as unconstitutional and urged the government to respect democracy.

Brazil sees largest protests in decades as unrest hits second week

By RT

Mass protests continued throughout Brazil on Monday, with hundreds of thousands of demonstrators converging in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, the capital of Brasilia and other cities.

Protests initially began last week following a government announcement of an increase in public transportation costs, which brought out students and young workers and led to more than 250 arrests.

According to reports by Brazilian media such as Jornal do Dia, the initially peaceful demonstrations last week became heated, and led to clashes with Brazil’s riot police that left at least 100 injured in the major cities of Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte.

Though the protests initially began following the announcement of bus fare increases, they have evolved to include a wide range of groups that have grown dissatisfied over everything from government corruption and income inequality, as well as to outrage over the police’s harsh response to protesters last week.

In a sign that public dissatisfaction was still simmering, soccer fans booed president Dilma Rousseff on Monday during the opening of a two-week tournament at a stadium in the capital Brasilia. The heckling only intensified when the president of the global soccer body, FIFA, reprimanded the crowed for failing to show the president “respect.”

Though Rousseff was able to ride on her predecessor’s popularity, Brazil’s economic growth has slowed considerably since she took over from Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is widely credited with lifting 40 million Brazilians out of poverty. Brazil’s economy has posted its worst two-year performance in over a decade, and inflation rose to 6.5 per cent in May.

At least 20,000 Brazilians were expected to demonstrate in Sao Paulo on Monday, with organizers placing the figure closer to 30,000.

VIDEO — Mother Murders Autistic Son Out Of Desperation- THINGS NEED TO CHANGE!

The Truther Girls
June 14, 2013

After caring for her son 24/7 365 days a year for 15 years and coming to nothing but dead-ends with the medical system that regarded his autism as purely a psych disorder, Dorothy Spourdalakis murdered 15-year-old Alex. She and his aunt, who was also his caregiver, then attempted suicide. How many more lives will be ruined and lost before things change? Autism is a TREATABLE medical condition and our governments and medical establishments must start recognizing it as such!

Rest in peace, Alex Spourdalakis.

There was an enormous effort by the autism community to save Alex, but in the end his mother obviously just about lost her mind and found herself in a very dark place where murder and suicide seemed her only options. Parents with ASD and other special-needs kids need accessible care-giving and medical support for their children.

Please read the following stories. Can you imagine the desperation and frustration a parent feels when they bring their austistic child to the hospital for GI problems and see them being placed in restraints and treated with only psych meds, and are told that ‘autism is a mystery’ and nothing can be done? Not a single GI test was performed on Alex to find out what was causing him so much pain! This tragedy could have been avoided!
