[UPDATE #4: Global Research sheds some light on what the traffic I witnessed might have been related to, the upcoming “Arctic Ram” exercise.]
[UPDATE #3: Alex Thomas of The Intel Hub added 2 excellent videos and some words which I’ll also include at the bottom of this article.]
[UPDATE #2: I’ve just received word from a reliable source that 6 tanks (that is, 2 on one transport vehicle and 4 on another transport vehicle) were also seen being transported west on the Queensway (Trans-Canada Highway) in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on January 19th 12th, 2012. The source said that she had lived in Ottawa for 20 years and had never witnessed anything like that before.]
[UPDATE #1: Someone asked me exactly where I witnessed this so I’ve now added pictures I took from Google maps to clear things up.]
———————————————————————————————-
Yesterday morning (January 20th, 2012), around 4AM I stumbled upon 20-30 tanks on train cars here in Halifax, Canada (at a train stop beside Fairview Cemetery).
Unfortunately, I didn’t have my camera with me at the time and when I came back to film no more than 15 hours later, the tanks had apparently already been transported away.
Here is a video of the location where I saw the tanks, as well as some commentary by me:
A couple months ago my girlfriend’s co-worker had told her that she also witnessed a similar scene.

The same day I spotted tanks, someone else apparently filmed the following video in Watsonville, CA, US:

Video Description:
I filmed this on Thursday January 19th after a dozen or so train cars went by on a stretch of track south of Santa Cruz California. It was heading southeast through Watsonville. Cause for alarm or just old tanks being shipped from one base to the other? Real or fake?

This video was filmed in Hayward California:
This video was filmed in Castroville California:
The fact that the military equipment filmed above is covered in woodland camo confirms that they are NOT set to be used in the Middle East.

Web blackout ends: SOPA bleeding, but not dead
By NewsBot
End the Lie
January 19, 2012
The Internet strike opposing the US anti-piracy bills SOPA/PIPA has ended. The webquake spearheaded by giants like Wikipedia, Reddid and Google led to key sponsors withdrawing their support for the acts. However, they are not dead, activists warn.
Massive opposition to the controversial legislation resulted in Congressmen and Senators swinging against the bills. Up to 18 Senators, of which seven were former co-sponsors, voiced their opposition to PIPA on Wednesday. On the SOPA side, at least two sponsors have dropped out, while Oregon’s Earl Blumenauer blacked out his website in support of the protest.
The protest was timed to coincide with a scheduled hearing in the House of Representatives on SOPA. However amid the online outrage, it was postponed, and the bill will now not be moved to the floor until legislators have reached a consensus.
The conflict, however, is far from being resolved. “SOPA and PIPA are not dead: they are waiting in the shadows,” Wikipedia warns. PIPA is scheduled be put to a vote in the Senate on January 24, while SOPA sponsors plan to push the bill forward in February.
SOPA co-sponsor Lamar Smith dismissed the protest, saying Internet giants are using false allegations to stir up panic in the online community.
“When the opposition is based upon misinformation, I have confidence in the facts and confidence that the facts will ultimately prevail,” Smith said.
Wikipedia reports that 162 million people saw its blackout message and 8 million used its search tool to find their legislative representatives.
“You said no. You shut down Congress’s switchboards. You melted their servers. Your voice was loud and strong. Millions of people have spoken in defense of a free and open Internet,” the website said in a statement, calling the protest extraordinary.
Google’s “Stop piracy, not liberty” petition scored 4.5 million supporters as of 4:30 pm ET, said Google spokesperson Christine Chen.
All in all at least 75,000 websites participated in the blackout, according to Fight for the Future foundation.
The protest action swept across the world wide web, with SOPA/PIPA-related topics trending throughout Wednesday on Twitter. Those were ranging from the dead-serious “SOPAstrike” to the humorous “factswithoutwikipedia” to the satirical “save porn.”

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet [video]
Fight for the Future

Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! – fightforthefuture.org/pipa
PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.”
The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.
Syrian social media crossfire kills users
By NewsBot
End the Lie
January 13, 2012
Syria is vowing to investigate the death of a French TV reporter. He was killed along with eight Syrians when a mortar shell hit a crowd gathered for a pro-government rally. But it is not only the media being caught between the conflicting sides.
Muhammed Mahmud’s son Tamman was an activist who used social networking sites, such as Facebook, to call for peace in Syria. He had phoned his family to tell them to watch him doing an interview on local TV.
“I saw him on TV, and he looked well,” his mother told journalists. But it was to be one of the last times the family saw him alive.
“Soon after that he was kidnapped. He left home and never returned,” his father explained. “We found his body in the morning, and his face was mutilated. It’s too painful for me to remember that moment.”
It remains unclear who killed Tamman. His family thinks it may have been militants who thought he was a working for the security forces after seeing him speak on television. But in reality he worked at a sugar mill and was training to become a computer specialist.
But, like so many other young educated people in Syria right now, he felt a need to be involved in the changing reality in his country. Syria, in fact, has one of the youngest populations in the Arab world.
In schools across Syria younger generations have become better educated than their grandparents’ or parents’ generations. It has meant they are not only more aware of their political rights, but more able to demand them too.
Many young opposition supporters have taken their campaign online, relying heavily on social media like Facebook and Twitter – tools which have helped topple regimes in Egypt and Libya.
“People’s literacy and also media literacy has been enormously enhanced in recent decades by both education and technological change,” says Mark Almond, a history lecturer at Oxford University. “But I think we should remember this can cut both ways. Opposition sides can try to get out their message and can mobilize people, but also even supporters of governments are much less dependent on a single news station or a single state newspaper.”
But between a regime under pressure and an increasingly militarized opposition, many Syrians have been left trapped in the middle.
“I have only one question: what did they kill my son for?” Muhammed Mahmud questions. “My son wasn’t a politician or a public figure. Let various movements, national and local, exist in this country. I don’t understand why my son was killed.”
Speaking before a crowd, many of whom were young supporters, President Assad once again repeated his promises of reforms and gave a precise timetable, but the move was met with skepticism from the opposition.
Meanwhile, on all sides of this conflict young, politically-motivated Syrians remain committed to fighting for the political future of their country, despite the fact that for many like Tamman that fight could end up costing them their lives.
