This fear, which was not consciously processed, brought forth a profound trauma that was submerged within the subconscious mind of the global population. Since September 11th, 2001 mass media has consistently triggered this subconscious trauma through the use of cyclical fear-based programing.

Well-known but misleading movie portrayals:
Psycho (1960) (Norman Bates)
• depicts psychopaths as having multiple personality disorder
slasher movie villains (70s & 80s) (Jason Voorhees, Freddy Kruger, Michael Myers)
• deranged and manic criminally insane killers. Could be classed as psychopaths, but are very rare in the real world.
Silence of the Lambs (1991) (Hannibal Lector) (nb. Manhunter (1986) is more accurate)
• Links psychopathy to cannibalism.
American Psycho (2000) (Patrick Bateman)
• gives the impression that psychopaths are psychotic and hallucinate.

• A psychopath marries a woman to get at her jewels, and convinces her she is insane.

• The state using aversion therapy to control a psychopath. It doesn’t work.
The Devils (1971) (Urbain Grandier)
• portrayed as a victimised hero in the Ken Russell film and in the source novel (Aldous Huxley’s The Devils of Loudun (1952)) (see chapter 5 of Thomas Sheridan’s Defeated Demons (2012). Sheridan argues that Huxley is a psychopathic author defending the actions of a psychopathic character from history, and that the charming and sexually promiscuous Grandier was the real cause of chaos and strife at Loudun in 1634).

The history of man’s efforts to find self-transcendence in crowds is long and, for all its strangeness, its weird aberrations, profoundly monotonous. From the potlatch and the corroboree to the latest out- burst of “rock ‘n roll,” the manifestations of herd poisoning exhibit the same subhuman characteristics. At their best, such performances are merely grotesque in their subhumanity;at their worst, they are both grotesque and horrible. One thinks, for example, of the festivals of the Syrian goddess, in the course of which, under the maddening influence of herd poison and priestly suggestion, men castrated them- selves and women lacerated their breasts. One thinks of Greek maenadism, with its savage dismemberment of living victims. One thinks of the Roman saturnalia. One thinks of all the outbursts of crowd intoxication during the Middle Ages-the children’s crusades, the periodical orgies of collective flagellation, and those strange dancing manias in which self-transcendence through herd poisoning was combined with selftranscendence by gymnastic means and self- transcendence through repetitive music. One thinks of the wild religious revivals, the frantic stampedes of those who believed that the end of the world was at hand, the frenzies of iconoclasm in the name of God, of senseless destruction for righteousness’ sake. These are bad enough, but there is something much worse-the crowd intoxication that is exploited by the ambitious rabble-rouser for his own political or religious ends.

A Molar Approach to Social Knowing
Abstract
Exemplary research in social cognition and perception is examined. It is suggested that a singular focus on internal, intraindividual cognitive and perceptual processes is not sufficiently broad to account adequately for the spectrum of social knowing phenomena. A more molar approach to social knowing than can be found in contemporary work in social cognition and perception is advocated. More specifically, it is suggested that work on molecular cognitive and perceptual processes will help elucidate basic social knowing phenomena only when such processes are meaningfully tied to the social contexts in which they, occur and to ongoing social behavior.
