Some Thoughts on Putin and Russia…

via Non-Aligned Media
by Brandon Martinez
Jun 13, 2015

The following text stems from my response to a pro-Putin commenter here on Non-Aligned Media. I’ve addressed the Putin/Russia issue many times before, having written a number of articles dedicated to my criticisms of Putin. The commenter advanced many familiar, go-to arguments for why Putin is someone to be viewed favourably and I address them below.

The commenter wrote:

he [Putin] threw out those who had already grabbed and privatised the 1) banks 2) insurance companies 3) media. By which they had gained control over the country, ready to exploit it further… the usual strategy. This they had achieved under drunkard Yeltsin. Putin returned the bank to the state, and told the Jews who put him in power to fuck off, one of them being Khodorkovsky who is the favourite candidate of the Americans for presidency in Russia. I am really not sure if your analysis is correct. What are your sources with regard to Putin? What do you think his ultimate goal is, then? From what I understand, the terrorists in Chechenya were Muslims… what if there were terrorist acts staged by Israel and CIA etc? Aren’t they the ones who are mainly after the natural resources in Russia? Who would have a reason to destabilize Russia? I mean he is ex-KGB, maybe he has some info that we don’t have?

My response:

Your thinking on this issue is indicative of a broader disconnect in the skewed outlook of many people who myopically divide the entire world into a conflict between Jews and Gentiles. Within this narrow line of reasoning, the Jew vs. Gentile dichotomy takes precedence over all other ethnic or geopolitical disputes. So in this case you prioritize Russian ‘interests’, dismissing Chechnya’s perspective whole sale, mainly because you feel Putin “stood up to the Jews” in whatever limited capacity that he did. So murdering 100,000 Chechens in a “dirty war” based on a lie is no biggie, because Putin quarrelled with a few rich Jews during his ascent to power. Doesn’t make much sense to me.

And it really gets convoluted when these supposedly pro-Muslim human rights, anti-Neocon, anti-Zionists start pontificating like neocon Zionists when it comes to Chechnya, spouting whole cloth Russian propaganda about “irrational jihadism” as the sole cause of the conflict between Russia and Chechnya, when obviously it’s a territorial dispute spurred by centuries of Russian occupation. We shouldn’t forget that even though Russia has humbled itself in recent years, it is still somewhat of an imperial power that seeks hegemony in its part of the world.

These same “anti-Zionists” would not be so keen to defend Russia and all of its geopolitical intrigues if it openly identified as Communist, even though Russia was markedly more hostile to Israel and friendlier to the Arab world during the communist years than it is today. But Putin has cleverly crafted a veneer of pro-Christian cultural conservatism which has wooed a good many conservative Christians in the West (proving that such people care more about his religious/cultural proclivities than his actions). Moreover, Putin’s luke-warm support of Syria and Iran (for venal economic reasons) has won over a good number of opportunistic Arabs/Muslims who prioritize Middle Eastern Arab/Muslim causes above that of the Chechens. However, none of Putin’s domestic policies or foreign policies in other areas exonerates him from culpability in murdering thousands of Chechens for the sake of maintaining Russian hegemony in the Caucasus.

Middle East Turmoil Is Complete Theatre – War Is On The Horizon

via Activist Post
June 3, 2015

By Brandon Turbeville

Considering the years of propaganda surrounding Iran and its nuclear program, it was clear to any informed observer that the recent US-Iran nuclear deal was nothing more than theatre. After all, the US/NATO imperialist machine has made its desire to wage war on the Persian nation explicit for some time. The only question is just how long this theatre will last before that goal is finally realized.

While the Western press and corporate media outlets have taken to presenting the Iran nuclear deal as either a tragic capitulation to the deadly warmongering Iranians or a brilliant lunge for peace with the deadly warmongering Iranians, the premise of their presentations are exactly the same – that Iran is dangerous, wants war, and is doing whatever it can to acquire a nuclear weapon.

This is, of course, despite the fact that there is no evidence that Iran is attempting to gain a nuclear weapon or has any aggressive intent in the region. In fact, the US and Israeli intelligence organizations have both determined that Iran does not have a nuclear weapon nor is it attempting to acquire one. Indeed, it has been admitted by military industrial complex firm, The RAND Corporation, that Iran’s military capabilities were largely defensive, not offensive. Even further, not only was Iran well within its rights to do everything it was doing in regards to nuclear energy and technology, the agreement signed with the West was an extraordinary act of conciliation and cooperation. Indeed, Iran bent over backwards to appease the West in its imperialists aims.

That being said, I have argued from the very beginning of the US-Iran nuclear talks that the diplomacy taking place was nothing more than theatre to be used later in the rush to war as evidence that the US did “everything in its power” to avoid confrontation. While the future is impossible to predict, one might reasonably believe that the US will soon sabotage the nuclear deal whose final touches and signatures are due at the end of June 2015.

Forces Align in Yemen After Renewed Saudi Strikes

1t7fu-6XuhJEhB1HSK2-240_634x422-300x200via New Eastern Outlook
by Alexander Orlov

May 31, 2015

The Saudi-led coalition resumed air strikes on Yemeni capital Sana’a after a five-day ceasefire. Dozens of families were forced out of their homes. These are the most large-scale bombings since the five-day ceasefire ended on May 17.

The issue at hand is that the Arabian coalition has so far been unable to combat the Houthis. With the help of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, their joint forces mounted a quick military offensive to the south of the country and ensured military domination over most of Yemen. Their advantage is indisputable in Aden and in the country’s northern parts. In other provinces (Hadhramaut, Abyan, Taez), the status of local tribal militias is determined by the renewal of massive funding to the local chefs from Saudi Arabia. However, this has so far been limited to several localities. The attempt to incite a mass revolt in Aden in late April-early May with the help of former Prime Minister of the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen) Haidar Abu Bakr al-Attas has also failed.

Presently, “the president-in-exile” Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi can only be seen as a “political corpse”. He is neither popular in the north, where he allowed the Houthis to overrun the Hashid tribal militia without coming to their aid, despite numerous appeals from the local tribal leadership; nor is he popular in the south of the country, where he failed to fulfil a promise to redistribute property and grant far-reaching political autonomy to the South. Due to this, Saudi Arabia’s agenda now includes a very important fundamental point: to find a leader capable of consolidating the anti-Houthi forces.

It is clear that Ali Abdullah Saleh will continue to hold onto his former stance: he has nowhere to run and the ultimate goal of his one-and-only strategy is guaranteeing that his tribe remains in the highest echelons of executive and military power. Riyadh does not intend to hand over these guarantees. However, the Houthis currently hold the military upper hand. Moreover, their leadership is currently ripe with stout supporters of “a war to the bitter end”, that is, the recreation of a Zaidi Muslim State. Most of the moderate Houthis leaders were lost during the suicide bombing of a Zaidi mosque in Sana’a in March. The other Houthis who are willing to find a compromise have been excluded from key decisions. Thus, it is still clearly premature to talk about the beginning of any real and effective peace talks. Neither the Houthis, nor Abdullah Saleh nor the members of the Arabian coalition, Saudi Arabia in particular, have any desire to hold such peace talks.

What In The World Is Happening In Macedonia?

via Activist Post
May 21, 2015

By Brandon Turbeville

In May 2015, protests began erupting in Skopje, Macedonia against the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and his government. The protests, led by Zoran Zaev, were allegedly in response to the massive spying and surveillance of Macedonian officials and other individuals as well as an alleged cover-up of a killing of a young man by police in 2011. The protests were largely focused on the issue of government corruption, with tens of thousands of people in the streets of Skopje, demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation as well as that of other members of his government.

A major protest occurred on May 5 and several other anti-government protests have taken place since then. While some protests have remained peaceful, there has been widespread violence from other demonstrations. On the May 5 protest alone, violent clashes took place between protesters and police with injuries taking place on both sides.

In the days that followed, several Macedonian ministers resigned from their posts, including the Interior Minister. Prime Minister Gruevski, however, has refused to resign, characterizing such a move as cowardly behavior.

On May 17, thousands of protesters once again descended upon the streets of Skopje to demand the ouster of the current government. On May 18, however, thousands more took to the streets to protest in support of the current government and Prime Minister Gruevski.

An anti-government, anti-Gruevski camp has been set up outside government offices and remains there indefinitely with several hundred inhabitants on average.

With such social unrest taking place in Macedonia, one need only look to the NATO/US and George Soros-funded networks to see the hidden hand of the Western Color Revolution apparatus at work.

Macedonia may at first seem an unlikely target of the Anglo-American color revolution apparatus, but the truth is that the small country is now the latest battleground in a proxy war between Russia and the West. Not only are the two sides competing for influence over the domestic affairs and political decisions of the Macedonian government, there is also the question of geopolitical positions and the agenda of the creation of micro-states and mini-states. Most notably, however, is the interest regarding the Balkan Stream pipeline (aka the Turkish Stream Pipeline).

Exposed: Ferguson Protesters Were Paid ‘Rent-A-Mobs’

May 19, 2015

It turns out the ‘protesters’ we were seeing in Ferguson, and possibly those in New York and Baltimore, are not angry citizens as we were meant to believe, they are rent-a-mobs who expected to be paid while they cry “no justice, no peace.”

A group in Missouri has been paying protesters $5,000 a month to generate civil unrest in Ferguson, the troubled St. Louis suburb where black youth Michael Brown was killed by a white police officer last August.

Turns out some of the ‘protesters’ haven’t been paid and are demanding what they were promised. They held a sit-in at the offices of Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE) and posted a demand letter online.
