[Potent News editor’s note: via Pepe Escobar: For those who haven’t seen it yet. RT’s title is misleading; I meant “start” metaphorically; Obama’s Syria decision is a diversion from PRISMgate. At least for 24 hours it worked, bumping Snowden off the headlines.]

CIA whistle blower Edward Snowden has reportedly been stopped from flying to the UK. The man who lifted the lid on America’s secret surveillance activities is being pursued by Washington. For his latest revelation, he told a Hong Kong newspaper that the U.S. repeatedly hacks into Chinese computer networks. For more about the leaks and Snowden’s future we’re now joined live by Pepe Escobar, a roving correspondent for the Asia Times.

In Singapore, up to 2,000 activists lead by local bloggers staged a rally against recently introduced licensing rules for news websites, including breaches of “racial or religious harmony”, which protesters see as an attack on freedom of expression.

A crowd with posters denouncing “internet censorship” gathered on Saturday in Speakers’ Corner at Hong Lim Park to demand the withdrawal of the policy. The peaceful demonstration in the Southeast Asian city-state was organized by a group of bloggers called “Free My Internet.”

The message of the gathering – “the government must trust us, and stop treating us like babies,” said Choo Zheng Xi, the group’s spokesperson. “It is an international embarrassment when governments around the world are working to deregulate the Internet, and Singapore, one of the wealthiest nations per capita, is going in the opposite direction,” the activist told AFP.

Under the rules that came into force in June, news websites must obtain annual licenses if they have over 50,000 unique visitors from Singapore every month and publish at least one weekly article on the island’s news over a period of two months.

Facebook Censors Pictures of Children Rallying Against GMOs During Global March Against Monsanto

Intellihub.com

In one of the most devastating acts of destruction of its own credibility, Facebook engaged in yet more censorship of Free Speech with the suspending of an account that posted a photo of children rallying against Monsanto during today’s global March Against Monsanto.

The picture shows two children of Natural News reader Andrea Lalama. They are carrying hand-drawn signs that read:

“ORGANIC FOOD It’s My Medicine – Label GMOs – Say NO to GMO”

and

“BIOPESTICIDES = AUTISM – SAY NO TO GMO”

After this picture was shared on Facebook by Natural News, Andrea’s account was immediately suspended. Facebook displayed a message on her account which read (see screen capture, below):

“FACEBOOK: You have been restricted from Interacting With Pages until Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 6:47pm.”At this point, Andrea can only re-post other people’s content but is disallowed from posting her own content. Why? Because children with signs are obviously very, very dangerous to the establishment.

See the photo of two children that Facebook says is “abusive”

Here’s the photo of the children that caused Facebook to suspend her account:

And here’s the account suspension notice screen capture:

Here’s a link to Andrea’s Facebook page, which remains suspended:

Another woman, Georgia Gallucci, was also censored by Facebook

As the following screen capture shows, another FB user named Georgia Gallucci also had her account suspended by Facebook after “reposting a friend’s photo from the Monsanto March.”

Yet another account called “Reversing Autism” was also suspended by Facebook for posting Monsanto march photos. The following screen capture shows the Reversing Autism account being labeled by Facebook as posting content that is “abusive.”

Astonishingly, Facebook believes that a corporation growing corn engineered to contain a deadly poison is not abusive, but talking about it IS abusive!

Facebook previously censored Natural News for posting a quote from Gandhi

Remember, Facebook previously censored a Gandhi quote infographic, claiming it violated its “community guidelines.” Facebook hit Natural News with a “final warning” and threatening to permanently delete the Natural News account.

Facebook has also been caught in the outrageous abuse of Free Speech through the censorship of people who have all sorts of non-mainstream views, including people who believe in the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution.

So this Facebook censorship is nothing new, and in light of recent revelations that the U.S. government engaged in an outrageous abuse of power to threaten, intimidate and silence certain groups through the IRS, many people are now questioning whether Facebook actually is part of the government surveillance grid that intentionally suppresses information the government doesn’t want to be seen.

Student jailed for three weeks awaiting trial over Facebook posts

A Boston-area teenager remains in custody on $1 million bond nearly one month after being arrested over what he said on the Internet.

Eighteen-year-old Cameron B. D’Ambrosio of Methuen, Massachusetts was arrested on May 1 after police were alerted to “disturbing verbiage” on his personal Facebook page discovered by a fellow student at Methuen High School. D’Ambrosio allegedly posted original rap lyrics that prompted authorities to charge him with terrorism, and now he faces a potential 20 years in prison.

He posted a threat in the form of rap where he mentioned the White House, the Boston Marathon bombing and said, ‘everybody you will see what I am going to do, kill people,” Methuen Police Chief Joe Solomon told the Valley Patriot earlier this month.

Three weeks after being surprised by police at his Methuen home, D’Ambrosio remains locked up.

A kid is in prison. Away from his family. All for something he posted on Facebook” reads a support page for the high school student established this week by the Center for Rights and Fight for the Future. In 48 hours, the website received more than 500,000 views, and on Thursday the administrators said 1.2 million people had visited the page by the time D’Ambrosio went before a judge that morning for a scheduled bail hearing. The justice differed deciding at this time if D’Ambrosio should be released from custody.

Cam’s attorney made arguments that he should be released to his family and that all evidence (including testimony from the police) suggested that he was not a threat to anyone. He also noted that Cam was two weeks away from graduation, and Methuen High School had decided to grant him a diploma,” Fight for the Future wrote early Thursday. “We expect a decision within a few days and sincerely hope that Cam will be home safe with is family soon.”

Meanwhile, though, D’Ambrosio remains locked up if and until a judge decides he isn’t a hazard to the community.

At the time of his arrest, school officials and law enforcement alike applauded the speedy response and celebrate D’Ambrosio’s arrest as a victory against terrorism only a few days — and a few miles — from where two brothers allegedly detonated explosives at the Boston Marathon, killing three in the biggest act of terror in years on American soil.  But nearly one month after being detained, authorities have not announced any proof that D’Ambrosio intended to act out the lyrics he left on his Facebook page.

A search of Cam’s house found no explosives, weapons, or ANY evidence that he was planning anything other than becoming the next Eminem,” his supporters write.

Among the Facebook content that alerted authorities was a song that was considered a warning of things to come.

So when u see me (expletive) go insane and make the news, the paper, and the (expletive) federal house of horror known as the white house, Don’t (expletive) cry or be worried because all YOU people (expletive) caused this (expletive),” reads a redacted version of one post made available to the Boston Herald.

Fox News quoted another song, in which the amateur rapper wrote “(expletive) the Boston bombing, wait til you see what I do. I’m going to be famous.”

On his support page, it’s noted that a key word was dropped from the line when it was reported by Fox. In actuality, D’Ambrosio wrote, “I’ma be famous rapping.”

Suddenly something that sounds like a threat of violence is clearly just bragging about how good Cammy Dee is going to be in the rap game. Last we checked, teenage dreams of grandeur were not a crime,” the website claims.

Anthony Gucciardi Talks With March Against Monsanto Director

by Anthony Gucciardi
Natural Society

May 19, 2013

I recently sat down with Nick Bernabe, a director from the March Against Monsanto campaign, to talk about the upcoming event and the massive outcry we’ve seen across the United States from ordinary people who have just about had it with the pervasive existence of Monsanto’s genetically modified organisms within the food supply.

I’ve been vocal about my support towards the March Against Monsanto initiative and its focus, which is rooted in a grassroots operation that calls for worldwide assemblies around the world in protest of Monsanto on this upcoming May 25th. Overall what I like about the campaign is the fact that it is ‘open source’ in that anyone can become a campaign manager in their area and rally at the local court house. From Austin and San Diego to New York City, thousands are already reporting in as attendees for the rallies that we see brewing in these areas.
