Google’s Ray Kurzweil says humans will have ‘hybrid’ cloud-powered brains by 2030

Within 15 years, humans will be implanted with nanobots that will connect their brains to the internet, allowing for vastly accelerated cognition. Ten years after that, most of our thinking “will be done online,” according to futurologist Ray Kurzweil.

“Our thinking then will be a hybrid of biological and non-biological thinking. We’ll be able to extend our limitations and think in the cloud. We’re going to put gateways to the cloud in our brains,” said Kurzweil, director of engineering at Google, during a keynote speech at the Exponential Finance conference in New York.

“We’re going to gradually merge and enhance ourselves. In my view, that’s the nature of being human – we transcend our limitations.”

The 67-year-old Kurzweil made his name inventing technologies that turn handwriting and speech into digital output, as well as a popular line of synthesizers. As director of engineering at Google, a post he has occupied since 2012, he is pushing his research even further – trying to improve computers’ ability to understand natural language, and eventually aiming to create true artificial intelligence that will allow computers to truly interact with humans.

PayPal Asserts Copyright Ownership Over All Intellectual Property of its Users

By Paul Joseph Watson infowars.com

In an alarming new update to its user agreement released this week, PayPal has announced that it will assert copyright ownership over all intellectual property of anyone who uses its payment services.

The update comes in the aftermath of the announcement that eBay and PayPal will split apart into two separate companies.

Under the heading “Intellectual Property,” PayPal announces that it is introducing a new paragraph to its agreement, effective July 1, 2015, that will allow the company to “use content that you post for publication using the Services”.

“When providing us with content or posting content (in each case for publication, whether on- or off-line) using the Services, you grant the PayPal Group a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicensable (through multiple tiers) right to exercise any and all copyright, publicity, trademarks, database rights and intellectual property rights you have in the content, in any media known now or in the future. Further, to the fullest extent permitted under applicable law, you waive your moral rights and promise not to assert such rights against the PayPal Group, its sublicensees or assignees. You represent and warrant that none of the following infringe any intellectual property right: your provision of content to us, your posting of content using the Services, and the PayPal Group’s use of such content (including of works derived from it) in connection with the Services.”

PayPal users reacted to the terms of agreement update by expressing their shock and confusion.

“Wow! Does this mean that anything I might funnel through Paypal will belong to them, and that they can do what they like with it, without consultation, interference or redress?” asked one respondent. “So, for example, my business website: they could override my copyright if I channel it through them in any of their services?”

Government wants the Anarchist Cookbook ‘removed from the internet’

via nsnbc international
Apr 3, 2015

Justin King (TFC) : Senator Diane Feinstein simultaneously demonstrated how little she knows about the First Amendment, explosives, and how the internet works when she suggested that specific bomb-making manuals should be removed.

Senator Feinstein issued a press release that reads:

“I am particularly struck that the alleged bombers made use of online bombmaking guides like the Anarchist Cookbook and Inspire Magazine. These documents are not, in my view, protected by the First Amendment and should be removed from the Internet.”

Don’t read the Anarchist Cookbook. We have better suggestions.

Luckily for America, the opinion of a woman who does not understand the decentralized and dynamic nature of the net is irrelevant in matters concerning the First Amendment.

However, staff members of The Fifth Column who have prior experience with explosives agree with Feinstein’s belief that that Anarchist Cookbook should be avoided. The rationale is very different, though. While nobody here believes that any knowledge is inherently bad, some of the information contained inside the Anarchist Cookbook is incomplete or inaccurate and could result in injury.

There are scant references to necessary safety procedures in the manual. At no point does it express the importance of lubricating contacting metals, for example. Metals that make contact may tend to spark. Creating random sparks while standing around a bunch of explosives is what is technically termed as “totally uncool” and is likely to anger anyone with you.

Contrary to Feinstein’s belief, the manufacture of explosives is not a complicated science. It’s basic chemistry. If rapidly expanding gasses are contained, it creates an explosion. The gentle reader probably has the elements necessary to make explosives and low-grade chemical weapons in their home right now.
