What Prevented Smart Meter Opt-outs in Pennsylvania?

Back in the summer of 2014, something very calculated apparently happened in the Pennsylvania state legislature that ought to be investigated by the Commonwealth’s Attorney General [1] and the Pennsylvania State Ethics Commission [2]. What happened was a crime against the democratic principles of governance, i.e., deliberately dis-allowing constituents, voters—and citizens in general—to exercise their right of redress and input regarding issues that affect them, their lives, and the safety of their possessions. The particular issue at hand was Opt-out provisions from Smart Meters, which was not originally written into PA Law 129 in 2008, but in committee ‘strong-armed’ into “sine die” by State Representative and Committee Chair, Robert W. Godshall.

When Republican Godshall was running against Democrat Dottie Miller during the 2014 campaign, he’s on record in an interview as saying, “As chairman of the General Assembly’s Consumer Affairs Committee I presided over the effort to modernize utility operations and update rules and regulations that reflect today’s needs and cut utility costs. Energy rates in Pennsylvania had averaged well above the national average, but have now been brought in line, and more work still needs to be done.”
Apparently, that modernization included fast-tracking Smart Meters, plus preventing several bills (former HB 899, HB 902, and HB 906 in the previous legislative session) ever from moving along or out of committee for a vote! Interestingly, Godshall is supposed to have received $28,100 from utility companies that probably persuaded “money to talk” louder than voters voices and ordinary Pennsylvanians, who fear for their health and properties because of Smart Meter Radio Frequency non-ionizing radiation (microwaves) being pumped into their bodies and homes from Smart Meters with an ability to explode or ignite.

SaskPower ordered to remove all smart meters in the province

REGINA – SaskPower has announced that they are removing all the smart meters that were installed in the province.The minister responsible for SaskPower Bill Boyd said the utility company will be taking out all 105,000 smart meters around Saskatchewan.
“I think the concerns about safety are paramount here, the concerns are significant enough, anytime families are at risk in Saskatchewan, actions have to be taken and that’s why we’ve directed SaskPower accordingly,” said Minister Boyd.
The removal of the smart meters over the next six to nine months will cost around $15 million, according to SaskPower.
“We view it as similar to a recall situation and the people of Saskatchewan shouldn’t be responsible for the costs of this and we’ll do everything we can to recover those costs,” said Boyd.
Boyd will also be reviewing why the new meters weren’t properly studied or tested before they were installed in homes.
“I don’t know whether there was enough testing done. We’ll certainly be conducting, along with SaskPower, an internal review of the procurement procedures around this around the safety concerns people had,” added Boyd.
“We want to determine when these were originally ordered, if there were safety concerns known at that point in time, so we have a lot of questions we’re going to be discussing with SaskPower about how this came to be.”
Earlier this month SaskPower temporarily suspended its installation of smart meters around the province after half a dozen caught fire.

Smart technology represents less of a breakthrough in power distribution and more of a revolution in complete, constant, panopticon-like surveillance of everyone. As these smart technologies begin to invade our homes, we are becoming mere nodes in a giant network that we yet but dimly comprehend. Called the “Internet of Things,” the plan is to create a network that will eventually include every single object on the planet. And as the public is finally becoming aware, such networks provide golden opportunities for corporations and governments alike to collect data and spy on the population.

David J. McFadden, co-author of the “Renewing Ontario’s Electricity Distribution Sector” report, discusses Ontario’s uniquely complex and inefficient electricity system, and what needs to change so that it can support the province’s economic future.
The guest is talking about reducing the number of power distribution systems to a much smaller number. Would this require seizing control over them by a centralized government-empowered monopoly? He hopes it can be done voluntarily. I guess the corporatocracy can do whatever it wants – eventually.
This whole discussion is about smart meters and smart grid. The most stomach-churning part of the interview is when he paints smart meters as a way of providing more choice to consumers. But of course it is an invasion of privacy and is going to allow remote interference and monitoring of our power use.
Please note: He expects everyone to have electric cars in the future – for some reason – actually because our society is centrally planned more than ever. And every night when we plug in our car, it might disrupt the old-style power grid. This is one of his explanations for why we need the smart grid.
Talk about collectivism! You’d think by now we could all have our own independent power source! But everything is moving in the opposite direction. Isn’t it amazing?
If you plug your car in, you might disrupt the network, or we might need to drain off some of your power, so therefore you must have the smart grid. Don’t you want to live in a utopia?
So we’re talking about massive centralization of our electricity system, as well as electronic surveillance and control over our energy use.
In my opinion, this is actually just getting us ready for not having enough energy – or enough money to pay for more expensive energy. And one reason for centralization and the smart grid is to “efficiently” manage an artificially created scarcity of electricity – caused by shutting down coal plants for instance.
And all of this is going to be sold to us as “choice” – as if we have a choice – with never-ending streams of propaganda telling us how empowered we are.
